AMSTERDAM: David O. Russell Movie Starring Christian Bale

A hot project is coming together that is expected to draw a strong cast. David O. Russell has written and will direct an untitled film that will star Christian Bale. The film is on a fast track at New Regency through its overall deal with Fox/Disney.

Plot specifics are being kept close to the vest. I’m hearing the project is eyeing an April production start. Matthew Budman is aboard as producer.

The movie would reteam Bale and Russell who worked together on 2010’s The Fighter. Bale won the Supporting Actor Oscar that year, the first of his four Oscar noms. The film scored seven Oscar noms overall including for Best Picture and Directing for Russell. [SOURCE]

Maybe after "Joy" tanked critically, financially and awards wise (though I'll defend Lawrence's work as her best performance under his direction, probably because she wasn't playing some borderline manic depressive floozy), this means we'll see a more reined in Russell and less the awards desperate sociopath Russell.

I much prefer awards-hungry O. Russell. The Fighter and American Hustle are far and away my favorite works of his.

I've liked Russell's 2010s movies, including Joy. Fighter was best, Playbook was the most entertaining/personal favorite of the bunch, and Hustle was solid.

They had a fallout. I forgot why, though? I know it had something to do with Russell making a certain decision that Mark highly disagreed on. But, you never know. They can always get back together again at some point. But at the moment, it's awkward.

I feel like I remember reading it was because Marky Mark wanted to be cast in Silver Linings and got mad when he wasn't. What a funky bunch.

That's a pretty solid cast though if they all sign on.

David O. Russell Eyes Margot Robbie, Angelina Jolie, and Jamie Foxx For Upcoming Feature

Not much is known about “Amsterdam,” the working title of Russell’s latest feature, but that isn’t stopping the casting rumors from flowing fast and furious.

Collider‘s Jeff Sneider reported earlier this week that Russell is swinging for the fences for the cast of his latest feature. While frequent collaborator Christian Bale has been tapped as the film’s lead, much of Russell’s remaining cast remains in a state of flux. Sneider had previously heard rumors that Lawrence was being considered for the role opposite Bale, but recently, the production had pivoted towards Margot Robbie in that key role. Meanwhile, Jamie Foxx and Angelina Jolie are both apparently in consideration for supporting roles.

All I know is that a cast of Christian Bale, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Lawrence, Margot Robbie, and Angelina Jolie all together in a film by Russell would make me very, very happy.
