USA Best 4K TV for $700-800?

Hello all,

I've been looking to upgrade my 1080p TV for a while now, but I'm not exactly the wealthiest man on the block and I can only afford around $700-800. For me, the TV needs to support Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:x. I was looking at a lot of 55-inch TVs so that's the size range I am aiming for. I found a lot of promising TVs but unfortunately, they either didn't support Vision or had poor QA with a lot of reviews on Amazon saying they came in broken.

Thank you for your time and have a nice day!

TCL 6 Series or a Vizio P series.

You’re not going to find a good tv with Dolby Atmos and DTS-X at that range. And to my knowledge, basically no TVs support DTS-X without an external sound system anyway.

I’d recommend getting either of those TVs now (they should be cheaper since the new models are getting release in a few months) and then later on getting a sound bar that supports both Atmos and DTS-X.

It's going to be difficult to get a good quality 4K TV for $800.00 with Dolby Atmos. The best place to go is Walmart. They'll have the cheapest 4K TVs that you can find. If you want a real nice 4K TV, it's best to save up enough money to get what you really want the first time.

If your finances are limited, then maybe it's not a good time to buy a new TV at all right now if you're on a budget because, you may need that money for something else more important, or for an unexpected emergency. You never know, but it's something to think about. If your plasma TV is still working good and not having any problems with it, keep it until you desperately need buy a new TV and can afford it, without putting yourself in a financial bind.

For your price range you should just concentrate on the best possible PQ with at least 1000 nits for HDR. The 2019 TCL 6 series on close out would be a good bet. TCL for 2020 is transitioning the 6 features into Series 5, so if you wait that’s the place to start.

Atmos and DTS-X are out of the question at those prices and Sam’s suggestions seem spot on.

Just like everyone else is saying, Vizio P Series and TCL 6 Series are really the only quality options at that price point.

I got an M657-G0 Visio, and am quite happy with it. Even the 65 is in your price range as a 7 series. The 8 series has better local dimming, but I don't have much problem with it as is. Considered the TCL 6 series, but I bought what was in stock at Walmart at Christmas time. Quantum Color, HDR all the way to Dolby Vision, no 1000 nits. Yeah, check out rtings.com. For a 55 inch, you can do proportionally better. Seriously, the tv will pass the bitstream audio (or do ARC) to a soundbar or back to a receiver with speakers, so what ever would you do with Atmos out of a tv's two speakers? Worry about the quality of the picture. I just have to figure out what to do with the old LG 50 inch plasma now...

Yes, go with the above suggestions! I recently picked up the 65 inch TCL Series 6 model 65R625 because of the Dolby Vision and am enjoying it thus far. Also keep in mind the various TV sales that will go on for major sporting events. Next up will be College Basketballs March Madness and a good deal could be had, otherwise if you can hold off then Black Friday will be your best bet! I picked up my TCL post BF for $750 at Best Buy. Good Luck!

Go with the Hisense H9F if you can find it in stock. If not, then either the TCL 6 series or the Vizio M-series Quantum.

Read some really good reviews of the H9F.

Sure you could get a cheaper TCL or a Vizio. But in that range I would absolutely stretch the budget and pick up a 55" Sony 950G for $899-$999. High brightness and Sony's image processing are everything.

The TCL 6 Series I currently use is pretty damn good. I paid for the 55" one though, It's my first 4K TV and I'm impressed with it. You'll find more luck with the 65" R625 if you decide to go for it if you want a large screen. Can't go wrong with it.

Don’t do this, IMO. Pick a budget and stick with it. There is always a “next tier” you can talk yourself into justifying because it has _______.

This is great advice. I picked up my Sony XBR65x900f for $1000. Sony’s X1 processing is about the best on the market for image quality, only to be beat by Sony’s new X1 Ultimate chip in the 2020 line of TVs. Sony TVs are also highly rated as far as quality components. Not light weight cheaply made plastic like some TVs are. You don’t need to believe me though. Put the Sony’s up against any of the other brands you are considering and look at the reviews on quality of product and performance. That will speak far better than I can hear.

Why anyone care about DTS-X without sound system.
