Just want to state right now that this movie has NOT been confirmed at all. I am making this thread based on Jim Carrey's words.

"I wouldn't mind going to do another Sonic the Hedgehog movie because it was so much fun, first of all, and a real challenge to try to convince people that I have a triple-digit IQ... There is so much room, you know, Robotnik has not reached his apotheosis."

I prefer if they adapt the comics. The comics had the overall better stories.

I hope that if we get a sequel that we get see more of Sonic's home world.

The Sonic franchise has never been all that consistent with Sonic's home world. Sometimes they treat it like it's very own world, and sometimes they treat it like it was always on "earth". The movie seems to be going the Sonic X route, sorta.

Sonic The Hedgehog director up for a sequel before movie is even released

The director of the upcoming Sonic The Hedgehog movie has revealed he’s up for a sequel before the movie is even released. Now that’s dedication.

Chatting to Metro.co.uk about the upcoming flick, director Jeff Fowler pointed out: ‘We had so much fun with this movie and I think audiences are gonna love it, and hopefully they’re going to be asking us to make more, which I would do in a heartbeat.’

You hear that folks? In a heartbeat. And it’s not surprising, considering the movie’s stellar cast, which includes Jim Carrey, James Marsden and Ben Schwartz. As you might imagine, working with Jim was a dream come true for Jeff, and he’s got one particular scene in mind that left him in stitches. ‘There’s a dance scene in his mobile lab and I had an idea of what he was doing, and then the cameras were rolling and he was doing his thing and I was on the ground rolling, in tears,’ he recalled.

‘He’s such a genius and I think what he did in that lab with that sequence is a perfect example of that.’ Despite facing drama, including the the explosive reaction to Sonic’s original design, it seems Jeff’s efforts have paid off, with the fandom hyped for the new movie. However, that’s not to say he didn’t feel the pressure – after all, Sonic’s only one of the most beloved cartoon characters of all time.

‘It’s pressure but it’s the best kind of pressure,’ he admitted. ‘I mean, to have fans that are this passionate and to have a fan base this large, that’s what you want. ‘You want people that are out there and excited and just supportive. It really is a blessing to have a fan base like Sonic’s.’ Jeff has certainly had a longer journey than he expected in the lead-up to the movie’s release, after he announced the team would be taking on a full redesign of the character when fans were left horrified by the original design. Despite it seeming like an impossible feat, he confessed that he didn’t really have any other option.

‘I probably would have had to change my name and then move to the witness protection program,’ he quipped. ‘No, failure was not an option. We were going to get it right no matter what.’ Can’t argue with that.

And a sequel is virtually a lock now. Looks like we will get to see Carrey as THE Robotnik. The one we all know and love that they teased (read: spoiled) in the first trailer.
