Lots of films are initially announced as being in 3D and then are never released that way.

It's always best to wait for confirmation before creating a thread, but since we have one now, the question mark remains until 3D is confirmed.

There are hints like this all over the place if you do a search.

That could just mean 3D computer animation as opposed to 2D hand drawn animation.

I think there is no chance it gets an IMAX 3D release, at least in America. Since IMAX unfortunately has severely limited 3D showings here the last couple years, usually just the biggest blockbusters get a once a day 3D option, and all animated movies have been 2D only (such as Onward next month).

I’m a bit skeptical of any format until marketing confirms it since plenty of rumored 3D releases either fall through or are overseas only. But would be nice if it’s in 3D domestically, movie doesn’t look all that great but I love the property.

I can't say I'm surprised. Let's hope Warners follow the example set by Trolls World Tour, which also went straight to digital but is still getting a 3D Blu-ray release.
