Default MGM releases

Warner is said to be preparing BLU versions of GONE WITH THE WIND and WIZARD OF OZ. Fox is releasing other MGM titles on BLU. Who actually owns the MGM catalog? Is it a thing where Warner owns it up to a certain date and Fox for later releases? Didn't Sony own it for a while - I vaguely remember reading that Sony signed it over to Fox a couple of years ago.........

If I remebmer correctly (a big if) Sony bought MGM from Time Warner, however, Fox distributes catalog on DVD/Blu-Ray.

My little girl just asked me if I had WIZARD OF OZ for her to watch anymore (I had tivo'd the HD broadcast in December but since erased it).

I've been holding off on buying it on DVD because I want it on blu for her.

Come on FOX!

Would be a really good *****slap to HD DVD if they released that title the day they drop them.

I see they are starting to release classics on blu this year. Patton is being released for father's day so Wizard Of OZ and Gone With The Wind should be out soon too.

None of the above

Turner bought the pre-1984 MGM catalog, and Turner was bought by Warner

All United Artists titles and post 1984 are retained by MGM, which is owned by a consortium that includes Sony, and distributed by Fox

I pray GWTW and Oz are Blu-centric encodes .The existing 4disc DVD sets are superb

Warner remastered all their "Ultra" restorations in hi-defintion masters, which explains how they were able to get Casablanca, Robin Hood and the Searchers out to HD so darn quickly.

As noted before and often though, as to whether they WANT to release vintage non-widescreen 4:3 movies is another matter.
(Ie., as soon as they stop coming up with alibis as to why the aforementioned two vintage 4:3 titles didn't sell....Gosh, HD-DVD, a then-unknown micro-niche market, next to no advertising as opposed to Batman, and two weeks after the first early-adopter players hit the shelves, and the two movies DIDN'T break overnight sales records?--Whatever is this industry coming to?? )
