In the final round of today's new edition of game show Pointless, the category chosen was Sweden. One of the sub-categories was films starring Max von Sydow.

I often watch Pointless, but didn't see today's show. I probably wouldn't be too bad if the question was specifically about his Hollywood films, but I'm not familiar at all with his non-American movies.

The category chosen in the final round of today's new edition was 'Films starring castmembers of 'Cheers'. The sub-categories were Ted Danson Films, Woody Harrelson Films and Kirsty Alley Films.

Got two Pointless answers,
[Show spoiler]Body Heat
and
[Show spoiler]Blind Date.
Was surprised that the former was a Pointless answer.

Regarding a category which came up recently on the show, it was 'Acting Film Dynasties' (I referred to it in the Indicator/Powerhouse Films/Indicator thread a week or two ago, guessing that one of the sub-categories might be films starring the Mills acting family, but I didn't have the category title right).

New editions from the current series resumed last Thursday or Friday. On yesterday's edition, the Acting Dynasties category was chosen in the final round. The contestants had to think of a film starring either Tippi Hedren, Melanie Griffith or Dakota Johnson which was a Pointless answer.

The 'British Acting Dynasties' category was chosen on today's new edition. Three sub-categories, films starring either John, Hayley or Juliet Mills. The films I thought of were neither mentioned as Pointless answers or answers which scored points (I came up with Town on Trial, Deadly Strangers, Twisted Nerve and Beyond the Door).

Pointless has had its fair share of comical answers, but this one from an episode I saw on Challenge a little while back really takes some beating. The category was 'Names of Historical Figures' and one of the clues was "assassinated by Lee Harvey Oswald in Dallas". The girl had no idea and in the end, she came out with........... J.R. !!!

I still think Wipeout needs a reboot :P Won't be the same though without Bob Monkhouse.

I remember seeing this show back in the mid-90's when Paul Daniels used to host it, but don't recall watching any of the Bob Monkhouse episodes. Not sure how I never came to watch any seeing as I liked Monkhouse and the gameshow itself wasn't bad either.

Two of my favourite TV show bloopers are from UK gameshows - one from Catchphrase (the Snakecharmer catchphrase on the big puzzle board) and the other from a Bob Monkhouse-presented series, where the winning contestant had to sit in a glass or perspex box/dome shape (in the latter, Monkhouse was trying (and failing) to open a briefcase which contained the cash prize (the look on his face was priceless).

I can remember a gameshow Bob Monkhouse presented which was shown (usually) either at lunchtimes or in an afternoon timeslot.

That was a gameshow Monkhouse had in the early 90's called The $64,000 Question. I only saw it now and again - can't remember if it was on during the afternoon, which could explain why I missed several of the episodes.

The 'snakecharmer' scene from Catchphrase is a classic. I also remember watching a repeat of this on Challenge a good while ago but sadly it was the edited version.

United Kingdom Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow

Thought the most recent series of Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow ended a couple of Saturday evenings/nights ago, but next Saturday on ITV a new edition is airing (the listings info says it's from the second series. The series which ended a couple of Saturdays ago was the third series). On next Saturday's new edition it's the turn of Play Your Cards Right (with members of the public).

I've really enjoyed watching the new PopMaster TV, I hope it returns for another series.

United Kingdom Pointless (regular version)

The latest returning co-host in the current, new series of Pointless (the regular version) is
[Show spoiler]comedienne Ria Lina.
They're doing something different with the current series (four editions with
[Show spoiler]Stephen Mangan
and four editions with
[Show spoiler]Konnie Huq).

There have been some good categories chosen in the final round recently (one of them could have been on a new edition of Pointless Celebrities), films starring Boris Karloff and Vincent Price.

Repeats of the regular version of Pointless return this coming Friday late afternoon/early evening) on BBC One.

United Kingdom Pointless (regular version) and Deal or No Deal

Had meant to post this update to the thread regarding the regular version of Pointless: since my previous post there have been new editions airing on BBC One the last few weeks. A new co-host was
[Show spoiler]comedian Nish Kumar
(they were on nearly a dozen editions), followed by another new co-host,
[Show spoiler]food critic Andi Oliver.
I may have forgot who co-hosted inbetween
[Show spoiler]Konnie Huq
and
[Show spoiler]Nish Kumar
(if I have, they were a returning co-host).

The new editions end this coming Friday, with repeats resuming from next Monday on BBC One.

*****

This past Monday afternoon on ITV1 saw the start of a revival of Deal or No Deal with new host Stephen Mulhern. It will be airing on Monday to Friday afternoons at 4 pm - 5 pm.
