Steam near movie posters?

Does it hurt posters to be near steam? I put some stuff up in my guest bedroom, but the bathroom has no door (it's a design element, not anything weird lol). If my guests ever take a bath or I use it, will the steam coming out affect or wrinkle the posters in the frames? Not much choice other than have nothing on the wall in a big room. I learned from experience not to have anything you care about in the kitchen if you're cooking on a stovetop.

Unless the frame is perfectly sealed, then yes steam will effect the poster, remember film posters are printed on relativity cheap paper, as they are designed to be pasted up or torn down & thrown out & therefore dampness of any kind will effect them.

How far away would you recommend placing them if there's no bathroom door in the room?

Have you considered getting your posters encapsulated? If they're of value to you, this would offer better protection against steam than normal lamination.

That is a good idea, would certainly protect the poster. Never done it myself, do you think it would de-value the poster though? providing it was a poster that had any value?

But I would most certainly look into it.

Really no idea, example in my past I have done displays where a store window was say 1 foot from the poster & the condensation still effected the poster in a cinema frame. Difficult to say or judge. You could buy a cheap poster, frame it & leave it up for a few months with normal use of your home & then see how the poster is?

I have heard some collectors may be reluctant to buy posters in this manner, that is if you were planning to sell them at any time in the future, but I guess it depends on how desirable or rare the posters are. But if you want to keep them for yourself, then I'd certainly consider having them encapsulated.

As for me, I've only ever encapsulated certificates and a couple of old maps I had from many years back, and it has helped to protect them without a doubt.

How did it get condensation just from being near the window? I mean, I have windows in my house they're near and maybe the walls are not the thickest during the winter. Thanks for your answers.

It depends on the store, but they don't always have best window installations, so you can imagine that they're not as good as a home that's sealed up tight. Plus they're often far larger.

As to the posters, it would depend on the humidity, if they get moisture in them, but dry very quickly, then they will have issues, the same if they stay moist.

Might worth checking on the humidity in the room with perhaps a large fan (on and off) in-between the where the posters are hung (I'd take them down for the experiment) and the bathroom to see how it changes.

I decent extractor in the bathroom would probably remove the steam.

I do notice that the walls (and any nearby items) get very cold in the winter and hot in the summer, so I'm not sure if that indicates my walls are super thin.

Some of the poster frames have open spaces in the back (it's a decent brand but a design to allow the nail hook to move around, I guess) so I'm not sure if that'll make it worse.
