The other thread was about the 2017 theatrical version that was overseen by Joss Whedon. This thread is about the Snyder Cut that was just officially announced.

Btw, I'm aware of all the documents compiling possible differences between Whedon's version and Snyder's script, but we should keep the discussion focused on what's actually going to be in the Snyder Cut. (No use discussing what if's and what could have been's.)

LOS ANGELES – May 20, 2020 – After global passionate fan calls to action and the #ReleaseTheSnyderCut movement, HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that it will exclusively world premiere Zack Snyder’s director’s cut of the Warner Bros. Pictures/DC feature film Justice League in 2021. Snyder surprised fans with the news this morning during a live online commentary of his film Man of Steel with Henry Cavill.

#ReleaseTheSnyderCut first became a passionate rallying social media cry among fans in 2017 and has not let up. From countless press articles and hundreds of thousands of social media mentions, it became a powerful global movement among cinephiles and comic book fans.

“I want to thank HBO Max and Warner Brothers for this brave gesture of supporting artists and allowing their true visions to be realized. Also a special thank you to all of those involved in the SnyderCut movement for making this a reality,” said Snyder.

“Since I got here 14 months ago, the chant to #ReleaseTheSnyderCut has been a daily drumbeat in our offices and inboxes. Well, the fans have asked, and we are thrilled to finally deliver. At the end of the day, it really is all about them and we are beyond excited to be able to release Zack’s ultimate vision for this film in 2021. This could never have happened if it weren’t for the hard work and combined efforts of the teams at HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures,” said Robert Greenblatt, Chairman, Warner Media Entertainment and Direct-To-Consumer.

Snyder will need another $20 - $30 million to complete the movie as either a four-hour director's cut or six-episode miniseries.

It is currently unclear what form Snyder’s Justice League will take. Whether it will be released as an almost four-hour director’s cut or split into six "chapters" has yet to be decided, but the Snyders are now in the midst of reassembling much of their original postproduction crew to score, cut, add new and finish old visual effects, and, yes, maybe bring back many of the actors to record additional dialogue.

Also unclear is the cost of the endeavor. One source has pegged the effort in the $20 million range, although another source says that figure could be closer to $30 million. The parties involved had no comment.

"It will be an entirely new thing, and, especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie," Zack Snyder tells The Hollywood Reporter, noting that, to this day, he has not watched the version released in theaters.

The Warner Bros. TV and movie library — which encompasses all 10 seasons of Friends — is also a lure, with 32 percent of respondents saying that they’re more likely to subscribe to HBO Max because of that programming. But among specific IP, the DC Extended Universe (26 percent) and Game of Thrones (23 percent) had more pull than Friends (21 percent). It’s no wonder WarnerMedia is paying $20 million to $30 million to bring Zack Snyder’s vision for Justice League to HBO Max in 2021.

As for the film itself, Snyder said that he was in the process working on restoring the aspect ratio of the film back to the full frame, IMAX cut that he originally intended. And he also revealed that he’s been collaborating with composer Junkie XL as they complete the score alongside the film’s additional footage. In terms of the length of his Justice League, Snyder said that he couldn’t reveal whether or not Justice League would be a film or split up into a miniseries, but did say that the full runtime would be over 214 minutes. Although in 2016, Warner Bros. wanted Justice League to come in at two hours, Snyder said he was always attracted to the idea of presenting his full film as either an extended cut with an intermission or an HBO release. He heralded HBOMax for being “amazing and so supportive” during this process. The filmmaker said he’d be happy with either a long-running film or miniseries, saying it wasn’t a compromise either way, but that he was particularly intrigued by the miniseries format.

You realize that this will be a completely different movie (or TV mini-series), not just a shorter/longer version?

I dunno, I think this merits its own thread. It's gonna be a radically different cut of the film, and I'd prefer to think that Whedon's version doesn't exist.

I'm sure somewhere down the line we'll get a re-release of Justice League that comes with the Snyder and theatrical cuts on two discs.

Different yes. Radically. Let's wait and see if what we actually end up with matches those often linked breakdowns and so on.

The original TC of "Josstice League" is ending with Victor working with Silas and improving his suit and so on. In the Snyder Cut it was allegedly going to kill Silas off during the resurrection of Superman scene during an extended battle with Steppenwolf at STAR Labs. Honestly, i wonder if maybe keeping Silas alive might have worked a bit better. He already lost his mum and almost his life. Silas dying too, i dunno.

Plus, apparently we were supposed to get other parts of the Knightmare scene. I do wonder if with it releasing in 2021, Snyder might have any reshoots or new scenes to shoot at all. I highly doubt Affleck would come back tbh.

The naysayers have been trashing Snyder and the fanbase for 2.5 years. Even now, they're moving the goalposts and finding new ways to paint this announcement in a negative light. It's insane. If you're not interested in Snyder's director's cut, then hush and let us fans be happy.
