Default Went to Frys and heard a bitter HD-DVD fan moaning.

While standing in front of the BD movies looking for something to buy, I overheard a bitter HD-DVD fan moaning to his two buddies:

"HD downloads are going to make these obsolete anyway. iTunes....HD movies...blah, blah, blah...."

I just had to LOL and snicker. Must have been someone who bought into Steve Jobs' BS and who was bitter that his format lost the war. I wanted to interject, but decided it wasn't worth it.

Yea an interjection would've only made it worse. I've found that bitter utterings are best left alone

You would think downloads would have killed off DVD's since you probably have the bandwidth for it...

HD downloads will happen but it will be a niche market, probably 5-10% at best. People still love to own/touch what they buy, until that changes physical media will be here.

HD DVD fanboys have got to be the most pathetic creatures around. Most of them appear to be no different than delusional, whining children.

These are the same people who were offered a clear choice between Blu-ray and HD-DVD, they made the wrong choice first time around, why should you but any weight behind their views now?

The sensible HD-DVD owners already have plans to move to Blu-ray, those still clinging onto HD-DVD or grasping for downloads are your typical fanboys.

LMAO! I knew it was just a matter of time before the HD DVD fanbois would be touting digital downloads as the future. And you're right, getting into an argument would have been pointless; fanbois always focus on what-ifs and pure speculation. How long did we have to put up with "wait until the 51GB discs hit the market!" BS?

No, in the end, it is they that will be losing out, not us. They will be bitter and resentful over this format war for a long time, and will trick themselves into believing that digital downloads look "good enough" (sound familiar?) on most people's TVs. It's pointless arguing qaulity with that kind of mentality...

Well, no matter how much they ***** and moan, eventually, when EVERYONE is buying BD's, and they see what they are missing out on, they will go Blu. But they will do it quietly and probably act like they never liked HD-DVD anyway.

I see that nonsense everyday!
The HD DVD crowd are still crying and trying to convince themselves that HD DVD will make a comeback.
Maybe as a door stop, sure!

I also see the download shills - UGH!
Not happening!

One thing people are forgetting is that the desktop pc is losing ground to notebooks continually. I work in a rather small shop in a rather small town, and even there the number of notebooks brought in has increased 10 fold.

One of the most common reason for notebooks being brought in? Dead hard drive. These things die constantly because people are bumping and jostling them around during use. SSD's are going to be amazing for notebooks in this respect, but the storage isn't even close to standard magnetic disc.

Mobile hard drives? Same problem, increased chance of failure, seen plenty of dead WD mybook's too.

I wish I had a dollar for every person that has lost everything, photos, resumes etc from a hard drive failure and then had a total meltdown over it, even in this tiny town.

It was really pathetic. It seemed like an exact echo of what we've seen on the HD-DVD sites. The dude was spouting them out almost verbatim. Really laughable.

The guy was telling his buddies something to the effect that iTunes got rid of CDs, so it'll do the same with BD and HD-DVD. I know he heard me snicker and looked over, but I just let him spout his BS.

I couldn't have held my tongue.

I would have just smirked and muttered "Wow, you sound bitter" as I walked by with my blus toward checkout.

That's all that needed to be said since they were within earshot of you and saw you looking at blus, their statements were meant for you to hear so why not shoot back a little bit.

I would have.

LOL, that would have been the best line to give the dude. Wish I would've done that.

Here is my sample interjection:
"Riiiiiiiiiiiiiight. You honestly think HIGHLY compressed 720p downloads with 5.1 surround from Apple TV, Netflix, and XBox Live are going to make full 1080p discs with uncompressed audio obsolete?"

Gah the insanity continues. On another note, yesterday in Circuit City I was in the queue behind a guy that was returning 5 unopened HD-DVD discs. Later that day in Best Buy, I saw a man and his wife looking through HD-DVDs while I was Blu-Ray shopping and the man wandered over and was looking at the Pixar movies. The wife said "Well do you want to bring it back and exchange it, you just got it at Christmas." I only assume they were talking about his obsolete HD-DVD player, given his inability to find any HD-DVD movies and resort to looking at the Blus.

Toshiba should be ***** slapped for dragging all these consumers through the mud. What's even worse is that I've seen more HD-DVD advertisements in the last week than I've seen in the preceding few months.

LOL!

If HD-DUD'ers are going to think that DL'eds are going to take over soon.

Then they are asking for another disappointment.

Idiots!

In a way it is funny, almost as if they have a secret talk radio that tells them what to think.

I guess to them, they tried HDM but it failed for them so they are moving on. To me that's too much herd mentality.

Downloads are still quite a bit away, I'm not a fan of downloading a lower quality movie to rent at a quarter of the cost to own. And having DRM lock it to a device isn't going after the HDM market to me. Its going after PPV and rental markets.

Not to mention a lot of people don't have the patience to download since US speeds still suck in general.
