Post Universal Studios is NOT critical to my movie collection

I did a brief inventory of my DVD collection this weekend. I was curious about the impact of Universal and titles that I would probably repurchase in HD.

Out of 200 DVDs in my collection, here are my 23 Universal titles:

Apollo 13
Back to the Future 1
Back to the Future 2
Back to the Future 3
The Birds
End of Days
The Frighteners
Jurassic Park 1
Jurassic Park 2
Jurassic Park 3
King Kong
The Last Starfighter
Meet Joe Black
Mulholland Drive
The Mummy 1
The Mummy 2
Peter Pan
Send Me No Flowers
Thorougly Modern Millie
The Thrill of it All
Torn Curtain
U-571
Vertigo

Of those, I would probably repurchase all but 5. Some titles I don't really care about anymore or would not have replay value to me.

Several months ago I stopped getting DVD releases in anticipation of buying into Blu-ray. I will hold off on buying ANY Universal titles until they support Blu-ray. I can play my current Universal movies on my upscaling BD player and can get new Universal DVDs from Netfilx. I am perfectly happy with this arrangement for the short-term future. This means that Universal won't be making much money off me until they come on board.

I won't buy into both formats. From the beginning I felt that Blu-ray had the best chance for success and the most promise to be a long-lived format. If I were an HD-DVD supporter, I'd almost have to support both formats because I couldn't live with a smaller library of HD movies available to collect.

I'm glad I chose Blu-ray, because ~90% of the movies I want to buy in Hi Def are going to be available for sure.

I think that if enough of us Blu-ray owners do the same thing, we can help force this format war to an end.

Just my thoughts . . .
