Default Arrow Films $2.99 iTunes Downloads

It looks like almost every movie distributed by Arrow Films on iTunes is $2.99 right now. Some of their pre-orders (such as the Gamera films) are also $2.99.

Most of them do not have bonus features.

I don’t usually download movies (except for old MST3K episodes), but I am very willing to blind buy a bunch of titles I have been curious about at these prices.

So far, I have downloaded:

- Black Rainbow
- The Chill Factor
- Dark Manor
- Doom Asylum
- Dream Demon
- Edge of the Axe
- Madhouse
- The Prey
- Scared Stiff
- The Slayer

Tempted to get:

- Bloodtide
- The Wind
- The Zero Boys (regretted selling the Blu years ago)

I’ve bought Ringu and Re-Animator from a prior $2.99 sale. Re-Animator has a ton of extras, Ringu includes none.

They show up as $2.99 pre orders when I search “Gamera” on either Apple TV or iTunes.

For anyone else having trouble finding Gamera (or any Arrow movie) on Apple TV or iTunes, you can also find them by:

- Select “iTunes” at the very top of this site main page

- Type the title you want to find in the white search space.

- Click on the red $2.99 in the upper right hand portion of the Blu-ray.com movie info page to be linked to iTunes.

That sale has been going for almost a week so it may be ending soon. I picked up all the horror and a few of the westerns. Should keep me busy for awhile.

When I do that, I see a lot, but not all, of them. For example, The Wind didn’t show up in the results.

I don't understand the parameters of the search function. There are definitely titles that don't come up under Arrow Video on iTunes or here. I looked at Arrow's website and then searched for the titles I was interested in.

The iTunes purchases have better video compression and 2.0/5.1 Surround. The Arrow Player offers just mono/stereo audio only.

I bought Terraformers for $3 because I want the original 5.1 mix.

I doubt the Arrow Player streams in 4K either, whereas they've upgraded Donnie Darko, Battle Royale, The Bird with the Crystal Plumage, Demons, etc. to 4K in the iTunes store.

Universal owns the first two you listed and only licensed physical media rights to Arrow. Arrow owns Donnie Darko’s physical and digital rights.

This is going to get SO annoying. These are only the first few titles to be negatively affected by this. We finally get certain movies in 4k, but the physical disc is $30+ and no digital option for people who aren't keen on paying extra for worthless postcards, posters, and other trinkets being added to drive the cost up.

In some cases, we are going to end up with the opposite problem, multiple 4k digital versions, one from the studio, one from arrow, one from kino, one from criterion, etc. Then you have to figure out which digital version has received the best reviews so you can purchase it, and then compare it to the price of the other versions, because some of them will go on sale, and others won't.
