i was thinking about getting a playstation eye. but some things i was wondering was how does it compare to other head sets, price and quality. are there any disc games that use besides that eye of judgement and race car game i cant think of the name. are there any good games on the playstation network. ive heard about the aquarium game what is that about. adn my final question is what are all the features you can use for that eye create thing is it somewhat like the photo channel on the wii or is it completely different. and if there is anything else you want to tell me please do (keep it about the playstation eye please) thanks ahead

I just bought one this weekend. Jury is still out. My daughter loves the aquarium - and I have to admit it is pretty neat to see your "reflection" in the glass, but the interaction is very minimal. Still, it was only $1.99 for that feature.
I downloaded a Mesmerize and wasn't too impressed. Ok, it leaves a trace of my hand as I move it - but it is pretty unimpressive. Again - my 3 year old approves. I haven't tried using it for audio as a "headset" - prefer my bluetooth headset for that right now. It takes pictures and video - but it is just as easy to use my video camera and do this. It is on sale for $39.99 at Best Buy - still hefty for what you get. I'd say a better buy would be to get it off Ebay. |

I like my Playstation Eye. The audio pick up from the multi-directional microphone is very good. I could move around my entire living room, and the people I would be voice chatting with, could hear me perfectly regardless of where in the room I was. However, when playing games, I still prefer to use a headset as I feel that the voice chat coming in is clearer (as opposed to hearing it on my home theater speakers mixed in with the sounds of combat). The microphone array is supposed to be noise cancelling, so that if you are indeed playing a game online that it will filter out the game sounds and pick up your voice. I think there's a limit, though, to how well it cancels background noise, and there are a lot of people that play games with the volume up so loud, or with the mic so close to the speaker that you will get background sounds, and it can get annoying.
When I used my PSEye in lieu of my headset after I first got it, my clanmates said they could hear me very clearly, and the background noise was pretty minimal. Even though my PSEye sits on top of my centre channel speaker, my clanmates reported that the game sound effects were practically non-existent. I don't have my speakers turned up extremely loud when playing, though. On the flipside, I have heard what it is like when a player using the mic array does have their stereo turned up very loud, and it can be extremely distracting in game, so I suppose whether, or not to use the PSEye as your mic/headset will depend on you and whether or not you like the picture frames to rattle off your walls everytime there is an explosion on screen. As far as PSEye games go, there are 2 PSN games (I have Operation Creature Feature, and it's alright. For under 10 dollars, it's a mildly amusing distraction), and 1 Blu-ray (The Eye of Judgement) which I do not have. Aquatopia is NOT a game. It's a virtual fishtank. Before buying a PSEye download from the PSN, make sure it's a game you're buying and not an interactive screensaver. I can't remember the title of the other PSN PSEye game, and I haven't tried it. If someone out there has it, let me know if it's any good. |

Did u say BB has it on sale this week for 39.99? Website price is still 69.99. I would buy the set for that much. Is it some type of in-store only sale?
***Edit*** Just found out that's the price for the camera only! Last edited by jeo393; 01-21-2008 at 11:30 PM. |

does the aquarium download only work with the pseye? for $2 i think it would be cool to just have HD fish swim around for awhile; $40 is a good chunk of change to buy something i wouldn't use except to feed virtual fish, with that same $40 i could buy assassin's creed.
