Faster loading will be a godsend. TW3 had terrible wait when you fast travel or respawn

Awesome news. I really enjoyed The Witcher 3 and the DLC. Since you can get the game of the year edition for less than $20 if you look around this is a no brainer for anyone that doesn't already have the game. It will be interesting to see if the price increases over the next bit after this announcement.

Is the DLC on a code slip or is it on the disc? Wondering if I have to buy a new sealed copy.

I purchased my DLC afterwards during a PS+ sale.

Wow. Love the fact CDPR are doing all this Pro-consumer stuff. Personally never played the DLC hut remember reading they had overhauled the visuals for them but couldn't do the same for the base game. Thankfully this should mean they all are getting an across the board improvement. I wish i'd have bought the GOTY on sale for circa £8. Hopefully the next time it is, i will with a PS5 upgrade for free.

I wonder if the regular version I bought on release day for PS4 will be included for the PS5 update. It sounds like it, without having to buy a deluxe version.

That's the way I understood the article. As long as you have the PS4 copy you'll be good to go.

That's something i hope they clarify. It's a good question because if the base PS4 game gets the expansion packs for free, then there's no reason to buy the GOTY edition on PS4.

If however its like a base PS4 version without DLC gets a base PS5 version and PS4 GOTY gets the PS5 Complete Edition with the expansions, then that's fair and i think makes sense to make people feel its also not shafting anybody.

Great news! This was going to be one of the only PS4 games I was going to keep & carry over to the PS5 so this a nice bonus!

I assumed both versions are getting the upgrade because they didn’t specify in the announcement, and they’ve confirmed that now

It will be available for both, vanilla and GOTY/Complete, versions of the game.
also said that it’s coming in 2021

Good to hear, thanks. So this will basically just be higher resolution 4K at 60 fps. That will improve the frame rate from some of the trouble it experiences in Witcher 3, so that's a plus. Along with the very long loading times since the game is not a seamless experience for the maps.

I have TW3 on the 1X and it's a super-fine game, but i'd rather that CDPR used resources to give us the full-fat PS5 version of Cyberpunk rather than giving us yet another enhanced Witcher game and half-measure edition of 2077. Priorities, gentlemen!

Projekt Red has expanded their team, so I can imagine the upgrade to PS5 shouldn't take much of their time. Their priority will absolutely be Cyberpunk for PS4 and PS5, since a developer really counts on their last game for lasting success.

I thought that the PS5 version wouldn't arrive for maybe 12 months but they probably had a Witcher 3 remaster for release around the Summer. With the massive launch problems on base consoles, i'd expect the next gen versions will be pushed down the line but Witcher 3 could be affected too potentially depending on how many staff they pull to work on base consoles.

I am waiting so far to play on next gen till maybe Holiday 2021, so i'm fine with them having a delay if it happens. Need to really play through it all again and try the DLC for the first time.

I'd imagine it's a separate and pretty small team working on the Witcher 3 upgrade.

The PC version has looked way better than the console versions for ages, so just a matter of getting those textures etc. into the console versions and optimizing.

That said, I agree with the sentiment as I won't rebuy (had the base game on disc, so only own the DLCs on PS4/5 currently) or replay Witcher 3. As much as I loved it, I had my fill and it's just too long a game to replay. So I'd much rather get the next gen upgrade come sooner--just doubt the Witcher 3 upgrade is affecting that time line. That is being held up by needing to focus on the big patches they said are coming in Jan and Feb to make Cyberpunk playable on last gen consoles without crashing.

Anyway, I'm not as antsy as many for the upgrade since I haven't had any crashes in 24 ours or so of play on XSX yet. Just some bugs (mostly visual and audio stuff) that will be nice to have fixed along with the graphics boost.

I wonder if a Witcher 3 upgrade will happen by late 2021 with all the work required on correcting Cyberpunk. If they try to upgrade Witcher 3 now, it could be seen as a diversion and cause some to ask why they aren't putting that effort into Cyberpunk, so I'm going to say this upgrade isn't going to happen anytime soon in 2021.

The current version is unplayable on my PS4 so hopefully the upgrade is better. My hopes are low but I want my $15 worth of gameplay before I give up entirely on this game.

What's unplayable about it? I played it around launch on a base PS4 and thought it and both DLCs are among the best games I've ever played.

The upgrade is just to boost resolution and have better frame rates and higher resolution, add some graphical bells and whistles etc. It's nothing that's going to change the game and make you like it if you just aren't enjoying it.

If you just find the graphics/performance "unplayable" I think that's a bit hyperbolic given how much I loved it and all the awards the game won, but the upgrade may help you out there if that's what's keeping you from enjoying it.
