Default Quick question about free Apple TV+ w/ purchase

Quick question about the one-year free Apple TV+ offer when you buy an Apple phone, iPad or Apple TV set:
Does the 1-year free subscription start counting from the day when you buy the device, or from the day you set the device up and connect it to your Apple ID?

Because I bought a new AppleTV set a few weeks ago but haven't opened the box.

For me, it started from the day I signed up (not the date of device purchase). If I recall correctly, there's a limited time that you have to sign up for the service after buying the device, but others can chime in.

It’s definitely from the date you sign up. Because I bought a new phone last year and didn’t do it right away. I do think you have a certain time frame to sign up though. I just don’t recall what it is. I seem to recall it was a wide window though. Something like 3-6 months.

You have 90 days from the Apple device purchase to sign up and then the 1-year count starts. I waited two months before I signed up.

To add on to this question, can you redeem then 1-year free subscription after you have already tried a 1-week free trial? I tried out the free trial about a month ago, but I just purchased a new Mac after my old one died on me, and it would be good to know if I need to create a new Apple ID to take advantage of this promotional subscription.

Just to give a head's up to anyone interested, the 12-month trial definitely starts once you install the device and connect to your Apple ID.

I bought my set two months ago, but didn't get it set up until today. And Apple is telling me I have three months from today (this day in December) to get the free trial.
