Default Conan the Barbarian (Live Action TV Series) Netflix

Quote:
Netflix has put in development an epic live-action series based on Conan, the iconic sword-and-sorcery character created by writer Robert E. Howard, I have learned.

I hear the project, from Fredrik Malmberg and Mark Wheeler’s Pathfinder Media, is the first in a deal between Netflix and Conan Properties International, owned by Malmberg’s Cabinet Entertainment. The pact gives Netflix the exclusive option to acquire rights to the Conan literary library and develop works across TV and film, both live-action and animated.

The move would fit into Netflix’s strategy of acquiring globally recognizable IP to build an universe of films and TV series, including Roald Dahl’s novels, The Chronicles of Narnia books and comics publisher Millarworld.

A search is currently underway for a writer/showrunner to pen the Conan adaptation and director to helm the project. Malmberg and Wheeler will serve as executive producers on the potential series through their Pathfinder Media. [×]

Very sad we never got Conan the Conqueror -- or Conan the King, or King Conan, or The Legend of Conan, or whatever the hell they were going to call it -- with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

I was just thinking, there was a rumor of a Witcher spin-off/prequel series on Netflix starring Jason Momoa, but what if there's been some confusion with that, and reality, it is this new Conan that has Jason Momoa involved.

I didn't care the revised 2011 Conan the Barbarian movie that starred Momoa, but I would totally not mind him reprising the role. He wasn't the problem -- it was the script and direction -- and Momoa has only gotten better as an actor, so, yeah, I'm all for him as Conan again, if that's what happens.

Otherwise, they have some hard casting calls to make, because those are tough shoes (sandals) to fill.

I would be down for this as well!

And it'll get cancelled as quickly as it was announced.

When Malmberg was involved with the 2011 film, his title was perfunctory at best. On this new series no way is he going to let the show be anything other than true to Robert E Howard' source material. Hiring M J Barret and Neill Marshall as directors should also be on the cards, as both were under consideration for CB2011.

I wonder what happened with the Amazon series?

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ighlight=conan

Lately, I've enjoyed more of Amazon's output than Netflix's, but anywhere is better than nowhere at all I suppose. I'll give this one a shot.

When the new management moved in to Prime, they factored that with them spending stupid amounts of money on the new Tolkien - Second Age tv series, the last thing they wanted was a competing franchise with Howard's character, so they dropped it. Damnable shame, as Ryan Condal's script for the pilot was supposedly brilliant. Still, the show is now at Netflix.
