Default The Five Best 'Coming soon' Blu-Ray Players

I'm getting ready for the 2nd. Quarter ordering of Blu-Ray Players I want in my store. After researching what's coming I've determined that the following Blu-Ray Players will be 'exactly' what we've all been waiting for. I'll list them, then you do the homework and let me know if you agree.

1). Panasonic BDP-BD50
2). Pioneer Elite BDP-05FD
3). Marantz BD-8002
4). Denon DVD-3800BD
5). Sharp BD-HP50U

I used the following data from this site to make my picks:

http://www.idoblu.co.uk/page2%20Blu-ray%20Players.html

There may be others, some very high end that may surface as well. So, if your cherry picking for the finest, here's your dream list. [Jim]

How are you rating them? Value versus performance? Or purely by capability and performance?

Thanks for the question: By capability and performance, price secondary. [Jim]

If price means nothing it looks like the Panasonic BDP-BD50 would be the top player based on all the features that it has. I just wonder how the different decoders handle everthing. Thanks for the site by the way because this year I will probably be looking at getting another blu-ray player and this gives me all the specs on all the players.

My biggest concern is whether or not we are going to see a drastic reduction in load times. So far all the current Blu-ray players pale in comparison the the PlayStation 3's load times.

Hmmm . . . . "Drastic Reduction in load times". My solution was simple . . . . when I come home from work, I power it up, and from there, when I'm ready, I place a Blu-Ray Movie in, it loads quite quickly.
Gee . . . . It takes my ATM Card 5-10 seconds to recognize my card , and I become annoyed at taking that long . What have we become? No one with patience! . [Jim]

Keep in mind all current Panasonic Blu-ray players to date have low (-5db)LFE issues with PCM over HDMI. Curious to see if this is fixed in the BD50.

What about simplified firmware updates?
Why don't any standalone players have a Wi-Fi capability like the PS3?

Have you ever noticed how many automobiles are on the road, for the entire life of the vehicle without a single necessity to make it work properly, or a recall, and they are far more complex than a DVD Player. If you want to gripe, gripe with the manufacturers of Blu-Ray DVD Players to introduce a product that "does not" need fixes. Demand a 'complete' solution product, not a band-aid on a shotgun wound. After much reflection, I have decided that once the Denon 3800BDCI is available, I will go with that, and accept that online content is not needed. After watching The Kingdom on HDDVD the other day and finding the only novel online feature was a poll, I gave it up. With the Denon, if the player lives up to the reputation, will easily fulfill all of my HD home theater needs for years to come. The PQ and AQ from this machine for both BD and SDDVD should be top of the line. It costs a lot, but at this time, it's in my budget. This could change, once I figure out how much I owe the IRS in April.

Excellent choice Jon, especially married to the Sony 52 XBR2, one of Sony's finest HDTV's. You'll experience "Nirvana" !!! [Jim]

That would essentially be my "dream list" for Q2... though if I owned a store, I'd be careful not to "over order" anything but the Panasonic.

In Q3 and Q4, after Sony releases a full line-up of Profile 2.0 players, they'll start commanding the majority of sales again. Like it or not, the name sells. Though, if your store is primarily high end, then ignore what I said. Those customers will be far more impressed with the Denon, Marantz, and Pioneer Elite quality.

Also, if you're a high end store, don't be too quick to pass on the Denon transport. For those that want everything handled by their preamp/processor or receiver, it looks like a great transport.

Acording to that site, the PS3 decodes DTS-High Resolution audio tracks... Mine doesn't... Same with BDP-S1
