![]() New media experience and top entertainment streaming apps coming to PS5 Netflix, YouTube, Disney+, Spotify and more will be on PS5 at launch. Hi, everybody! We know that for many of you, your PlayStation console doesn’t get shut off when you’re done playing games. Entertainment like movies, TV shows, music, and gaming livestreams only add to the PlayStation experience. As we continue on our road to PS5 launch, we’re pleased to announce some of the entertainment apps* scheduled to hit the PS5 console on day one, with more apps to come in the future. Apple TV
Disney+
Netflix
Spotify
Twitch
Additional streaming apps* coming to PS5 include Amazon Prime Video, MyCanal, Hulu, Peacock, and more. As we showed in our tour of the PS5 User Experience, there will be a dedicated space exclusively for media entertainment. It’s located right next to the Game home screen, so you can quickly switch between Game or Media content. Within the Media space, you’ll no longer need to download entertainment apps through PS Store — it’s all in the Media space. Creating dedicated Game and Media spaces for the PS5 user experience will make it fast and easy to switch between gaming and entertainment content whenever you want. The PS5 console also features a new Control Center that makes controlling your music easier than ever before, so you can quickly switch between channels, skip, and pause your music. At the launch of the PS5 console, there will be a new Media Remote to conveniently navigate and control the entertainment experience on PS5. Users can power on the PS5 console and quickly navigate media with built-in play/pause, fast forward and fast reverse controls. The remote also lets users adjust volume and power settings on compatible TVs, and also features dedicated launch buttons for the following entertainment apps*, Disney+ Netflix, Spotify and YouTube. We hope you’ll enjoy this experience once PS5 launches in November. *Internet and account for PlayStation Network required. Streaming services may require paid subscription and are not available in all countries. Update - Plex has confirmed it will be available at launch. Update - Funimation Has Confirmed That A Funimation App Will Be On The PS5 At Launch Update - Crunchyroll Has Confirmed That A Crunchyroll App Will Be Available For PS5 At Launch UPDATE - Hulu (Confirmed by ArsTechnica) UPDATE - Amazon Prime Video (Confirmed by ArsTechnica) UPDATE - MyCanal (Confirmed by ArsTechnica) UPDATE - Peacock (Confirmed by ArsTechnica) Last edited by Mavrick; 11-01-2020 at 12:30 AM. |

I am going to assume Twitch and YouTube probably will do 4K/30fps streaming but if they somehow managed a 60fps, that would be cool too. Personally i've been streaming just on my PS4 but it's capped at 720p and the recording says no longer available if broadcasting at 60fps. So i'm actually hoping that there's quite a bit more flexibility for streaming with camera placements etc. and whatnot such as transparency options if you're able to use a greenscreen.

They should just have a growing list of paid channels and free channels as with some Smart TVs that update next time you connect online.
Last thing I want is to only have a choice of payment required web TV channels. Tubi is the best IMO for free movies and TV shows, and that's all free with occasional commercials. For renting new movies online, that's something different. |

Yep, I was surprised to see Apple TV.
I'm waiting for the new Apple TV 4K model to be announced. But I'm guessing it won't be coming until next year since we're already pretty late in the year now. So this app will certainly help pass the time until the new model is released. Only possible downside is that it won't support Dolby Vision or Atmos. The Disney+ app on PS4 absolutely sucks, it doesn't even do 4K let alone DV or Atmos. So I'm not holding my breath for that support to be included. |

I wouldn't count on the streaming apps to support it. I don't think any PS4 apps support Atmos, and I really don't understand why the Disney app doesn't support 4K on PS4 either. Fingers crossed they fix all of these app issues with the PS5 versions. The best thing about Apple TV is the astonishing bit rate they stream at vs every other service. "See" had the highest bitrate of an *Apple TV*+ show tested, averaging a 29Mb/s video bitrate and a 41Mb/s peak Netflix meanwhile are reducing their bitrates again, it was already pretty low at 16 Mbps but their new compression algorithm is reducing it to as little as 1.8 Mbps depending on the scenes shown. |

Streaming apps, although they started to get introduced on the PS3, still weren't huge when the PS4 was developed. The PS5 has been built with high-res everything in mind. |
