I binge-watched the whole series last night.
It was very funny and extremely moving. The last half hour was absolutely devastating. I was never much of a fan of Keeley Hawes, but her performance in this was incredible, as were the rest of the cast. The writing is excellent, easily comparable to QAF, if not better! |

I haven’t watched it yet, all I know is they had to change the title from The Boys because of the Amazon series, and that Alexander is 30 playing 18! 18 was his age when he appeared in Noe’s Enter the Void. It’s been mentioned elsewhere, but Years and Years (no relation to Olly Alexander, ironically) is available on Blu-ray in Germany from StudioCanal. ![]() |

Enjoyed episode 1. It’s going to get dark though obviously. I have a feeling this will be the director’s greatest triumph. Cracking soundtrack also. I’m not gay but I remember the AIDS commercials and posters everywhere back in the 80’s. I was only a kid but having John Hurt warn us of a new disease in his authoritative voice with a scary advert is not something I have ever forgot.

growing up as queer in the 2010s was weird because it was distant from Section 28 and the epidemic, I only really knew what it was from Rent not that the 2010s was a great time to grow up queer either though |

Imagine if they made ad like that for Coronavirus. A person coughing is crosscut with a volcanic eruption, a house burning down whilst someone with a fever lies in a sweaty bed. Ending with a grave collapsing with the sound of a ventilator in the background, with a mask falling onto screen and stern voice going “Hands. Face. Space.” Maybe we wouldn’t be in a third lockdown.

I actually prefer the new title, it's really resonant within the entire series. |

I don't think anything was as chilling as this ad from Australia. It apparently played on TV (which I didn't watch at the time) and I only ever saw it at the cinema a few times. I loathed watching it because cinema was one of the few escape route from the whole AIDS tragedy unfolding and having to sit through it used to unsettle me further.

I'm grateful this is getting a UK BD, since Years and Years didn't.
UK home video releases of TV are great, they tend to come out the week after a show is broadcast. Years and Years involved an 18-month wait for the German disc, which I never suspected, I was afraid it would never have an HD home release. I presume this getting a release, when Y&Y didn't, is down to the network? Y&Y was BBC, and more and more of their prestige TV shows don't seem to get BDs. Both were produced by Red, which is owned by Studiocanal, so it can't be that. Interesting that Studiocanal did the DVD of Y&Y in the UK, but they're not doing this release. |

Just finishing binge-watching the series this evening and it was sensational.
Five episodes x 45 minutes each flied by and it captured the era so well. Interestingly, watching so many different films/series over the years from different parts of the world always amazes me how the different trajectory in which the AIDS crisis played out. I will definitely purchase the Blu Ray. |
