USA Friedberg/Seltzer on Blu-ray

A small thread dedicated to the domestic home video releases of no one's favorite directors: Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer.

Includes both written only and written/directed films. Scary Movie sequels don't count because they had no involvement other than "Based on" credits (and even then nothing from the original Scary Movie was written by them, thank the WGA for their credits in that one).

On Blu-ray:
*

Note: Starving Games and Superfast! have site reviews by Brian Orndorf and were released on Blu-ray internationally, but have no domestic Blu-ray releases. Epic Movie also received an international Blu-ray release in Germany

DVD Releases:
[Show spoiler]Stuck on DVD only (States-wise):

BONUS By Rick Friedberg (David's dad):

I heard their involvement in Scary Movie was just that they had a similar spoof script of Scream and Miramax didn't want them making it to compete with Scary Movie so Miramax bought it from them and gave them credit but didn't actually use anything from it.

Anyway, as someone who still loves Twilight, Vampires Suck is hilarious and probably their best.

What I heard from one of the Wayans brothers years ago is that they heard whispers that Keenen Ivory Wayans was working on a Scream spoof and rushed a script to try and beat them to it, not that they just coincidentally had one

I eventually found some value in their movies as, like, time capsules of the year in pop culture they were made to reflect. Rewatching Meet The Spartans reminded me that I completely forgot about Sanjaya from American Idol, for instance. You can debate the usefulness of said value, of course, but alas.

In short: you could retitle Epic Movie as “NOW That’s What I Call A Movie! 2006”

I look forward to your 4 hour YouTube video essay on the importance of them and their work.

(Jokes. But thanks for compiling that they even have some work out there on blu, which is sad to think that there are some classic directors with less out there).

You know, most of what I've seen from them is beyond the bottom of the barrel, but I've always liked Spy Hard. It's not a good movie, but there are several good laughs in there. I'd go for a blu-ray of it.

Scary Movie 1 doesn’t count, either. Their “credits” are entirely superficial:

Quote:
Scary Movie has a staggering six credited screenwriters, as a result of two competing projects effectively being combined into one final slasher parody.

Basically, the bones of the film's script were created by Shawn Wayans, Marlon Wayans, Buddy Johnson, and Phil Beauman, the latter two having served as writers for the sitcom The Wayans Bros.

While this script was being developed, Miramax also had their own Scream spoof in the works, as written by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer, who later went on to write and direct a string of critically panned spoofs such as Date Movie, Disaster Movie, and Vampires Suck.

Though according to Marlon Wayans neither Friedberg nor Seltzer had any input on the Scary Movie script, the Writers Guild of America nevertheless elected to give them a credit due to the two projects being rolled into one.

And so, Friedberg and Seltzer have been able to market all of their subsequent movies as "from two of the six writers of Scary Movie." Genius.
The dip in quality from SM1 to their godawful solo movies should tell you how “involved” these two hacks were. There’s a reason why they WERE “ two of the six writers of Scary Movie”: they were fired for being talentless hacks.
