I noticed they re-released the DVD set.... Is it still edited? It appears some reviews on Amazon state they are while others state they aren't... |

Thanks for the Amazon link to the complete series. I've only seen the first couple of seasons of the '90's/early 200X's TOL, and really liked the show. This is an decent price for the whole series.
Not sure we'll ever get this re-boot on Blu, so DVD may be the way to go. |

They are literally ports of the Canadian Alliance DVD's [minus region coding] from a decade or so ago - so still edited. |

You know this for sure? That's very disappointing. I guess I'm never going to get to see this show unedited ever again.

I collected the Canadian individual seasons from Alliance when they were originally released and I also picked up the Australian box set last year, so I can confirm they are identical. The Australian set even has the same bi-lingual English / French menus. Sadly we may never get the unedited versions again - they seem to have been lost / forgotten about. ![]() |

I wonder if Amazon’s 2021 acquisition of some of MGM’s library includes the unedited original versions of The Outer Limits: The New Series (1995)?
This may be the first good chance we have of seeing this remarkable series remastered into HD from the original film elements (and likely upscaled when necessary for visual effects shots). Just have to hope that someone at Amazon who is involved in evaluating the MGM library realizes that no one wants the censored-for-syndication edited versions! |

Finally got the DVD set of The Outer Limits '95-'02 complete series. I've only seen the first 2?! seasons years ago, so am looking on forward to watching the whole series in it's entirety down the road. I found this somewhat superior to the original b&w series, but a lot of that may be because of my extreme nostalgia for the '90's.
I can't see watching this until next year (at the earliest), due to the massive back-log of other TV shows & movies I want to see beforehand. But, when I do - I may post some reviews. |

Seasons 1&2 were probably the show’s strongest, but it was pretty good across the whole of its run really.
The Sandkings, Quality of Mercy, The Voyage Home, A Stitch in Time, I Hear You calling, Trial by Fire, Worlds Apart, Inconstant Moon, The Light Brigade.... all personal favourites from the first couple of years. |

Agree completely that the DVD PQ for this OL series is below average. However, the only other way to watch this is via streams - if you can find them. And, the few streams I've seen of the show have worse PQ than the DVD's.

TOL was finished on video and would have to be re-made from the original film elements and had the VFX augmented and replaced like TNG, to achieve results that are acceptable by today's standards. That's just not going to happen. The show is effectively stuck where it is, unless someone decides to pony up millions to re-do the work in HD.

It’s MGM, so probably best we don’t hold our breath....
Best hope would be remastered live footage plus upscales VFX/composites. That being said, what did they do with SG1? Was that pure upscale or remaster/upscale as per above? Even SD on BD would be better than the current offerings, at least compression/low bitrate issues could be bypassed. |

If you guys don't mind answering a guy who just looked at this thread out of curiousity, could you explain what could have been edited out of a 90s television show? I would think ti would be tame compared to anything shown on television today, like The Walking Dead or even Rick and Morty. Thanks.

The first six seasons were Showtime. They contained nudity, swearing etc which was edited out for syndication.
Only the final year was SyFy which aired without any adult content from the get go. |
