Default Disney+ Star launch brings Fox movies in 4K inc. Die Hard 2-5

The Star expansion is rolling out today on Disney+ in many parts of the world including Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom.

Among the hundreds of titles are a bunch of 20th Century Fox movies available for the first time in 4K Ultra HD.

Here are all the titles I've found so far to be available in 4K Ultra HD on Disney+ from the launch of Star that are not available on Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Die Hard 2
Die Hard with a Vengeance
Live Free or Die Hard
A Good Day to Die Hard

(500) Days of Summer
The Day After Tomorrow
The Devil Wears Prada
The Longest Ride
Me and Early and the Dying Girl
Paper Towns
Patton
Victor Frankenstein
Kingdom of Heaven

I have not included movies released from 2016 onwards. Some of these have already been available digitally according to some other users.

And why should we care about Star or Disney+ on a physical media site?

Because it means that they have now released 4K versions of these movies to the public and as such could end up releasing them on Ultra HD Blu-ray whenever they want.

A number of these are already available in 4k on sites such as Vudu. I've purchased Die Hard 3 and The Day After Tomorrow already when they were on sale for $5.

What, just like all the other Disnee live action catalogue movies they've released on UHD thus far? I get that you're excited but several of these 4K transfers have existed for a good few years already without hitting UHD disc e.g. Die Hards 2, 4 and 5 have been available to buy in 4K HDR on iTunes. Just because they're on Star it doesn't mean anything for disc, unless Disnee are using viewing metrics to decide what to release. Even if they are, this isn't the right forum area for this topic.

You mean like The Jungle Book and Beauty and the Beast premiered in 4K on Disney+ before being released on physical a couple months later?

It looks like they're releasing Speed and Heat soon so it could mean some of these follow.

If that's the case it's weird they didn't just release all 5 physically in 2019.

It is my understanding that those transfers were done before the buyout.

Wish upon a star I guess.

They don't scare up discs in just a couple of months, these things are planned well in advance, like Home Alone and Hocus Pocus being released late last year after having done the bidness on D+ the previous holiday season.

Though as Speed and Heat haven't been featured on D+ then there goes the viewing metrics idea...

We're not making it up, I literally bought the iTunes 4K versions of Die Hard 2 and 4 a year ago.

Who's to say some of these weren't done then too?

I didn't say they did, I just said it they were released afterwards. Hocus Pocus was not in 4K on Disney+ until when it was released on Ultra HD Blu-ray. Home Alone still isn't even in 4K on Disney+ oddly.

Most of them WERE done then, that's the point: the only thing that's stopped Disnee from releasing all that stuff on UHD is Disnee.

I never said you were. I'll check it out later. Just saying it's weird they didn't just release all 5 in 2019 then.

In this context, if it's even true, it doesn't matter about the format on D+ so much as the viewing figures.

So you just proved my point right: they could well release these on Ultra HD Blu-ray this year haha.

If it's even true? Hocus Pocus wasn't in 4K on Disney+ until the Ultra HD Blu-ray was released. And Home Alone isn't in 4K on Disney+ when I checked recently. It's pretty black and white.
