I pre-ordered this before christmas, was initially due in February. At least it's still on. One of the better Michael Caines

The web site states that the aspect ratio is 1.77:1.
I hope not as the film is in Scope at 2.35:1.

I wouldn't be the first time 101 presented a film in the wrong ratio.

Oh dear.
I won't be buying it then if it is not in Scope.

I can but hope that it is just an error in description on the website.

If it’s open matte I could live with it, not if it’s cropped.

What other releases have they messed up the AR on?

If they use the same transfer that Kino used it should be Scope.

It was filmed in 35mm Panavision so there is no 'open matte' option.

101 Films just said on Facebook the AR was copied and pasted in error. So looks like it's 2.35:1.

Will be picking this up, I think. On first viewing I didn't like it that much, which is a bit strange considering Siegel is one of my favourite directors and Caine one of my favourite actors.

One to re-watch.

Was difficult to watch on Film4 because of the cropped/ hacked aspect ratio. Good to know a decent release is coming.

When Eight Bell Tolls is just as bad, if not worse. And it's cut......

The dvd is ok. The bluray release by KL Classics ( Kino Lorber) is OOS on Amazon at an alarming price too.

The Kino blu looks fantastic so hope it's the same transfer. The film lacks coherence but it's still a decent slice of 70's espionage. Vernon is awesome in this, was he the J T Walsh of his time.

Would be good if it's the same transfer based on what you say about the Kino (which I haven't seen). Vernon had some key roles in a number of great films: Point Blank, Dirty Harry, Charley Varrick and The Outlaw Josey Wales. I'm eager to re-watch The Black Windmill now. It's got a very good cast overall.

Watched Brannigan recently and Vernon played the bad guy in that with relish. Great actor.

The website entry has been changed.
The blu-ray is indeed in 2.35 Scope.
Great.

Just watching this now, and the main titles are windowboxed quite heavily, but can confirm it's the same transfer from the Kino judging by caps.

I watched it for the first time a couple of weeks ago.
For a spy thriller, it's too slow and uneventful.
Rather disappointed considering the cast and crew involved.
