And actual open world-esque Pokemon game; color me shocked.

Much more impressive than the DP remake.

I still can't understand why they can't make a graphically impressive Pokemon game. The Switch is more than capable of better looking games than this but for some reason Gamefreak just can't pull it off.

I'm glad GF are working on something new like this though and leaving the remakes to a 3rd party.

I love the Apricorn looking Pokeballs though, was cool seeing them looking like that for once. Guess it sets the games hundreds of years before present day Pokemon games.

Pro. Oaks Pokeball in Pokemon 4ever was much more advanced and that was set 40 years before present day.

I want to be excited for this but as Mavrick said, the graphics aren't impressive. I'm hoping this is still in development because it doesn't look much better than SWSH. The battles looked better but the overworld was less than impressive. It looked so barren and very low quality.

This is absolutely a step in the right direction though. If nothing else I'll give GF that. Cautiously optimistic is how I'm feeling about these two games.

Yeah hopefully they can iron those drops out with the year they have left in production. Those frame drops in the trailer were very noticeable, surprised they let that be shown.

I'm just glad we are getting something that seems to be taking a chance on something new. They would never make such drastic changes to the mainline formula, I'm hoping for a deeper story something a little bit more mature than you would traditionally see in mainline games.

I'm not expecting Teen ratings but something with a little bit more to it, like they did with the Webisodes of the Anime, there was some pretty great mature content in those episodes but they were still fine for the kids.

This game is a year away. Pretty sure graphics will improve people. Can't make anyone happy these days.

Sword and Shield isn't Breath of the Wild so people *****.

Finally get a Pokemon like Breath of the Wild and they still *****.

Pokemon fans are the worst. Feel bad for GameFreak.

There's no reason to feel bad for them. They have ownership and creative control over the highest grossing media franchise of all time. I'm sure they're doing just fine. We've seen time and time again that it doesn't matter what people say online. They'll still go out and spend money on whatever GF/Nintendo put out. I'm no better when it came to SWSH.

In the case of DP remakes, I don't really understand the whining. My initial reaction was that the graphics were cool as hell. Fans have been saying that Pokemon never should've transitioned away from 2D.

Honestly this is the most impressed I've been with Gamefreak in what feels like forever. Trying new things on both of these games and that's exactly what everyone has been asking for. Cautiously optimistic, can't stress it enough.

It's worth calling out that GameFreak is only about 150 people and even though Pokemon games make tons of money Nintendo gets most of it. GameFreak does all the work and gets all the toxic hate despite the fact that they are actually smaller than other Nintendo teams. It's pretty sad really.

I have lots of friends that work in Redmond at Nintendo and at Niantic on Pokemon Go. Very under appreciated.

Who knows if the game will be good but they absolutely are taking a step in the right direction with this. I hope we see more things like this from them going forward as the younger developers take more of a lead in the series and people like Masuda hopefully take steps back. They really could do wonderful things with this IP besides the safe (albeit fun) standard formula.

This sounds excellent. The game is bare minimum a full year away, and likely longer. They have plenty of time to work on frame rate and other things...
[Show spoiler]plus a potential switch pro next year,

The size of the team doesn’t matter it’s the talent they have. Better looking games have been made by much smaller teams. Just look at what one person made in their spare time

Gamefreak just need to drop their in house engine as it’s trash compared to what can be achieved on 3rd party engines.

And GameFreak won't get that level of talent given their reputation. Talented developers need more creative control than Nintendo will give.

Nintendo is so concerned about keeping things in house using third party programs just ain't happening. Hope that changes one day.

It's definitely going to be interesting to see how the gameplay works out. As they said it's a time before Pokemon Trainers and a time before the Pokemon League, so it will be good to see how it plays out without any trainers to battle and Gyms to challenge.
