Before I purchased my OLED I had a plasma in my living room that I've used on a regular basis, and I haven't notice a significant increase on my electric bill. I'm quite sure your plasma TV wasn't the only product that was using electricity in your home, so it could be a compound of power consumptions that was increasing your bill. I don't know if you have AC and if you do, air conditioners use a lot of energy that can greatly raise your electric bill.

Yes, but @ the time LCD consumption was less than plasma.
Today LCD still takes less power than OLED, and both make the electronic laws of the lands happier.

How much power say a 77" or 83" OLED TV consumes today?
They must be getting more energy efficient and climate happier?

* We need solar powered TVs ... or wind TVs. ...With Tesla batteries inside.

They should ban electric hairdryers ...
• Do they use those in the tribes of the Amazonian jungle?

Personally when I watch TV and my movies, I don't worry about the electric bill because, regardless the amount of electricity I use, the electric company are going to charge you whether if you use the amount of electricity that you've been charged for or not because, they're based upon the meter readings, and periodic calculations, so I'm going to have to pay the bill anyway. It's a no win situation for the consumers! Either you pay the bill or your service will be shut off temporarily until it's paid. All TVs need electricity for them to operate, so it doesn't matter what kind of TV you buy, it's going to consume electricity because they can't operate on batteries, so there is no other option. We don't worry about the power consumptions of our refrigerators because it's a appliance that need to be fully operated 24/7 and 365 days out of year to keep our food fresh, when TVs can be turned off and on.

In all seriousness though,... I have wanted to go disappear off grid to the middle of nowhere many times, but would have to bring my HT system with me of course

Not sure what kind of solar power setup you'd need to do this, but I'd imagine it would have to be pretty heavy duty to be able to supply power for a 60" plasma, amplifier, and subwoofers... not to mention the usual house lighting, fridge & other appliances, and maybe some sort of heating source on top of that

Yeah my mother in law lives with us so it was 8am to 11pm was a good 20-25 a month to run the plasma TV lol. She has an LED TV now

This makes me more depressed, especially thinking back on selling my mint Panasonic ST50 for $300 with box and everything back in July 2016..

Long story short: I was moving out-of-state within weeks and had it priced competitively for months before that, but with 4K coming soon at the time, people just didn't want to buy "old" tech. Ended up selling it to a plasma-lover who bought it as a backup, so I'm glad it went to a good home. Wonder if he still has it?

I like my C8 but I do sometimes miss the "CRT"-esque feel of a plasma.

Panasonic made a stunning 2160p plasma, but it was 152"

Making the sweet spot for selling televisions (42~60") was just not going to happen with plasma at 4K without significantly increased losses over 1080p sets.

Panasonic exiting PDP (the nail in the coffin) was in 2013. CE companies will have been doing work with HDR at around this time (the first HDR products getting announced at CES 2015). This might be the main reason.
