Much appreciated BijouMan! I'm mainly interested in hearing owner's impressions of this -- or really any other VR headset. How does it stack-up to the competition?

While I'm more interested in movies than gaming -- I would still like to know what the best gaming content is for any of these devices.

I only have the Oculus Go but you can watch 3D movies via Plex in SBS or TAB format.

Of course, you can watch VR videos with youtube or with Skybox VR player.

I haven't checked to see if my single Vudu 3D movie works ....Or maybe I did and I forgot. I don't use my Oculus much lately and may give it away after they start requiring a Failbook account.

Two years ago, PSVR had the best games but Quest has a lot of developers making games for the headset. They are getting the best exclusives now. I expect that to change when PSVR2 is launched. VR reinvigorated my love of gaming. The immersion is fantastic and I’m willing to forgive any graphical issues as I know where this tech could take us. If you want I can provide my list of favourite games?

I see any competition as a good thing. I might even get a future Quest at some point. Watching developments closely.

I don't think there should be much competition.

The PSVR has roughly 600 wires and the oculus is totally wireless.

Now, a NEW PSVR that's wireless and otherwise awesome would help.

(nevermind me .... there is a new one with less wires I am really out of the loop.)

Yeah I'd like to see that. I think I mentioned before that I did not have a real high opinion of VR games until I played the STAR WARS attraction at The Void. Totally changed my opinion on VR -- very immersive, and lots of fun when your friends are "in world" at the same time. I can't recall which headsets they were using at The Void -- maybe Oculus?

Anyway, the pandemic lockdown has lead most of us towards different forms of in-home entertainment -- VR is on my radar now in a way it wasn't a year ago.

It’s two wires to the small black box, two in the back of the PS4/tv and one usb into the PS4 when required. Only the psvr cables and usb cable aren’t hidden. Once it’s setup, it’s really not much hassle. Just plug in headset to small box, usb cable into PS4 port and it’s good.

The next version of PSVR will probably be wired but that’s a good thing. It will enable better graphics and more horsepower. It’s said to be just one long cable into the PS5. Maybe wireless will be possible at lower fidelity?

Now's the time. They'll eventually be a new one but that's the case with everything. Quest 2 will still be supported for a while. Quest 1 is still supported as are other older models. I think the PSVR 2 will still be wired, but just have a single wire, no box or anything. You can use the Quest for PC VR games too. Any game that supports the Rift I believe. Which is a lot, even the new Half Life VR game. Flight Simulator in VR. Even connect to the PC wirelessly if you have the right setup. If you have a good PC anyway. Quest just gets better and better, even more so with updates. Hand tracking is cool. Only real downside is the Facebook requirement. Also the hardware isn't as powerful as a PS4, but the lack of power trade off for what you can do and will do is more than worth it. Also lack of power isn't really an issue connected to a PC.

That’s the downside though, you need a very good PC. I’m getting a PS5 this December so it makes sense for me to carry in with the PSVR2.

Well you don't need a PC to really enjoy it. You can just consider it a epic bonus on top of what you can already do. Definitely watching out for PSVR 2 as well.

I have never used a VR anything before. I had the opportunity to play around with an Oculus Quest 2 the other day and I am blown away. I don't understand how the Oculus does what it does. I played a painting game and Fruit Ninja. The painting game made my jaw drop. The thought which kept going through my mind was “How the hell...??”.

If that blew you away wait until you try an open environment game (Vader Immortal, Wizards, Dreadhalls...) in a big play area. Super immersive to be able to just walk around in the game while actually walking. Some of the games can be quite a workout too, Ninja Legends has gotten me out of breath before from running and dodging.

Sounds like the omni directional treadmill from Ready Player One and the boot suit are things that would readily be useful now.

December 2016 changed my gaming priorities for ever. I fell in love with gaming all over again when I put my PSVR headset on. My first experience was a animated short and it was delightful. I was surrounded by clouds and a bridge stood out in the centre of the screen. A character walked into view and switched a torch on. Below me was a village with minuscule detail. I was just blown away. That’s before I even got to the games.
In Gangster Heist, I was sitting in a pub with the bar in view and worn furniture surrounding me. Then, a guy walked into the pub and sat opposite me! Just incredible.

Quest, PSVR, whatever? I absolutely love VR!
