Warner Bros Space Jam: A New Legacy aka Space Jam 2 (2021) Never in 3D

'Space Jam: A New Legacy' aka 'Space Jam 2' in some countries, will be releasing on July 16 in cinemas and HBO MAX simultaneously in the US, and it will be releasing in RealD 3D and IMAX formats. IMAX aspect ratio is 1.85:1.

First trailer out:

Surprisingly, 3D and IMAX is not mentioned in the posters and the trailer, but it is mentioned in Wikipedia. Visuals look strong enough to be good in 3D, so yup, we eating good this year.

Are you sure? There is no mention of it on the RealD website either...

There's only 4 films highlighted on that site. It'll be mentioned soon.

Even 'Mortal Kombat', which is getting released in RealD 3D on April 23, which is a few weeks from now, is not mentioned there.

Second trailer of 'Space Jam: A New Legacy' will be out tomorrow. Poster mentions Dolby Cinema, will probably get more details in the new trailer.

We'll wait. Surprisingly they haven't mentioned IMAX either, when the film is in this big aspect ratio, and Wikipedia still has RealD 3D mentioned.

I suspect that this will go the same way as Mortal Kombat and not get any 3D release whatsoever.

Same here, but 'Mortal Kombat' is an R-rated film and for some reason WB thinks R-rated films cannot be released in 3D, just like how they declined James Gunn's idea to release The Suicide Squad in 3D despite the film being R-rated.

Now 'Space Jam 2' is rated PG, that means it is open to more audiences, so WB will actually consider releasing this in 3D because obviously it's more enjoyable in 3D for kids and whatnot. I don't know, let's hope for the best.

I remember when they gave him carte blanche. Guess that changed. Live action 3D always had stronger sales than animated titles. Dont have numbers but I'd wager WW84 or GvK have better sales than Trolls or Croods. Not to mention R titles like Prometheus, Saw 5, Final Destinations, etc. But then we've seen the bad decisions made by WB with their movies that last few years.

Personally I was amazed we even got 3D WW84 & GVK released on disc.

There is no evidence that Space Jam was ever converted to 3D, unlike Mortal Kombat.

Content came in the satellite feed a few days ago, confirmed no 3D option for this at least in the US.

You don't happen to know if premium screens for this one are contingent on how well BW is doing? Because my local AMC's haven't announced what will be playing in their Dolby auditorium for the week of the 16th, so I imagine it's still undecided.

Its contingent on contracts, if Disney demanded minimum of 2 weeks on premium screens so BW will stay there for 2 weeks, in this case Space Jam would go to the second biggest room available. Sometimes Splits are negotiable but then depends who gets the prime slots.

I know we are contractually obligated to show BW in IMAX until Jungle Cruise opens at my theatre. I am sure there are quite a few that are that way. luckily 2nd week of BW will bring us far more business than Space Jam 25 years 2 late in IMAX would.

So advance booking has started in the UAE, and unfortunately there are no 3D showings.
Looks like this is the same case as 'Mortal Kombat', never in 3D. Not looking good at all.
Whereas on Wikipedia, it's stated that it will be released in RealD 3D, IMAX 3D and whatnot.

Yes, it seems a 3D release was planned but dropped. It's unknown if the conversion was ever actually done so, until any evidence to the contrary materialises, it has to go down as never being in 3D.
