Default Why still no 3D compatibility that is just not right when PS3 and PS4 has it

Anyone hearing something if it will get the software Update to play 3D Blu-Ray like PS3 and PS4 ?

Hi Svensson. Sadly, Sony doesn't care about blu ray 3D and could've easily added the feature on the powerful PS5. It's often about what is most popular, as they even eliminated CD playback of all things. It can't play CDs...

But with each update, no word on blu ray 3D support. Maybe in the future if Avatar 2 3D does well to reboot the 3D industry more.

Thankfully Sony still supports the stereo 3D of the PSVR games for PS4 and playable on PS5, but the blu ray 3D playback apparently only works on the PS4 console of PSVR. If you try to play PSVR blu ray 3Ds on PS5, it won't work, which is dumb if true.

Did you know the PS5, right out of the box, will not even play any disc games or other games? It's true. You have to connect online to update it so it can actually play games. I tried it out myself and it said, "you cannot play this disc until you update your PS5". So stupid.

Current projectors do. And most devices should be backward compatible. This is just another reason not to buy it.

Thousands of people, like myself, own up to 50-100 3D bluray movies that they would like to keep watching in the coming years. Sony pushed this tech on us, and it's an awesome tech! The biggest and most important one since surround sound was introduced. And suddenly Sony just stops the support for it when its just a firmware code to fix it. It's lazy! They don't care about their customers.

Good point. My 3D projector can play 2D or 3D movies. It's like having a mini movie theater at home, something I always wanted but never got around to until this year.

Yeah, I don't understand what they were thinking by including the ability to play disc games for gamers who don't have access to fast internet, but then forcing the consumer opening the PS5 box and many without good internet, to hook up to the internet and update a brand new console just so it can play disc games. Normally the firmware update would be on the disc itself to be able to play that disc. But I guess that's out the window these days now.

Good point. I have about 150 or so blu ray 3D disc movies. I need to recount them. A new 3D movie disc on the way soon that I ordered too. So great they're still making some for loyal 3D fans.

It's great to still be able to buy a 3D projector, or watch blu ray 3Ds on an older 3DTV, or the PS4 and PS3, as well as the PSVR on PS4.
How tough would it be to have the PS5 add a small update for blu ray 3D playback. I can hook my PS5 up to my 3D projector and it would play blu ray 3D movies on it. Currently, I have it hooked up to my PS3 for blu ray 3D playback. My PS4 can too, but I use it for PSVR.

PS5 I'm using now mostly for PS4 games since there are hardly any PS5 games. I have a handful of games for PS5, some pretty good but nowhere near what I would expect for "next generation" yet.

Definitely dont like the no 3d support on PS5. Lots of folks have a 3d disc library and new 3d releases still hit these days as well. The last 5 projectors I've owned support 3d and the newest models do as well. Sony needs to release an update to support 3d on the PS5.

It’s actually quite smart from a business perspective.

Sony doesn’t have to pay licence fees on a unit sold if it hasn’t been connected to the Internet.

Neither Xbox or Ps5 has 3d compatibility, then again who buys a PS or Xbox system for 3D movies? PS5 is for playing games if you want a 3d player got buy the sony X700 that supports 3D and 4K playback.

Its obvious we have different perspectives here as I bought my PS5 for gaming only. Then again I dont own a 3D system I buy 4K HDR movies as thats where the future is at.

Look, if you like 3D that's great. But have some damn self-awareness man. Nobody is asking for this in 2021 (and before you even try to argue this, I don't literally mean "nobody" I just mean a very small niche of people). It's why TV manufacturers abandoned the tech. Because nobody gave a shit. They tried to push this tech and the market spoke loud and clear. Is it any wonder Sony is no longer interested in supporting it? You saying "well I will never buy a PS5 because they don't support my micro-market sized interest " is beyond petty and frankly childish. Incidentally, Xbox doesn't support 3D and neither does Nintendo. So what are you going to do? Just quit gaming altogether over this one feature? Fine if that's what you want to do but that is some all kinds of cutting your nose off to spite your face. Besides, if you have such a hardon for 3D, get a VR unit. That's the ultimate 3D experience.

Incidentally, I used to have a 3D TV has well. I bought a Panasonic plasma with active 3D and went out and bought extra glasses and a bunch of 3D Blu Rays. I also played a few PS3 games in 3D but over time, once it became apparent that widespread 3D adoption wasn't going to happen, I just simply moved on. That's what most rational consumers do. Doesn't mean I'm orchestrating a boycott against Panasonic for simply reaction to what the market doesn't care about.

That comment is as clueless as if it is ridiculous and ignorant, especially your last two sentences. You're basically just outing yourself as a sheep who just does what the market tells you to do. Rational people would be more prone to thinking for themselves rather than just 'moving on' just because others did the same. Thankfully we at least have the likes of the 3D Film Archive and Kino Lorber who aren't daft enough to go along with your mentality and are still giving us classic 3d films. If they shared your mindset, we'd never see them.

LMAO yes thank god! Because, you know, it would be the end of society as we know it if we couldn't watch movies in a beyond gimmicky format that adds what basically boils down to a cheap amusement park level thrill.

Movies existed long before 3D and they'll exist long after it's ultimate and total inevitable demise.
