Good advise. At this point, anyone who is buying in can't complain if they get left holding on to a brick.

Default Best quote from the article:

"I wouldn't pay more than $10 for an HD DVD at this point. I have an urge to buy current HD DVD-exclusive titles The Sting and The Deer Hunter for some reason, but used copies are going for about $15 with shipping on Amazon, which I think is too much."

Yes, I read this article. If prices come down enough, I would splurge on a few titles temporarily to stake my lust. Say, 15 free movies and a HD-A20 for $100, I would do it.

i for one am glad to see CNET take at least some sort of stance on the format war. It is about time.

The advice is coming from the Executive Editor of CNet. HD dVD owners should sell of of the obsolete hardware/ software while they still can. The amount of positive PR that Blu-ray is getting is priceless.

It's funny. On AVS, I mentioned all the remorse HD DVD buyers would have should the format go bust. This was right before Christmas. They screamed and carried on that such a fate could never befall HD DVD, and even in the event it did, it would be years and years before it would happen.

Well, what do you know? Not even 2 months later and the format is effectively dead and letters from regretful HD DVD owners are flooding CNET.

I honestly think many of the HD DVD fans over at AVS are in serious need of psychiatric medication. It was painfully obvious something exactly like this was going to happen to one of the formats sooner, rather than later.

I couldn't agree more, the way they try and spin everything is amazing. I understand loyalty but cm on. Some of the things they come up with is just insane.

While I wouldn't blame you, I hope that enough people don't see it so it looks like some sort of turnaround.

Personally, if I could get a player for $20, I'd probably grab it and Netflix the HD DVD movies I wanted to see. No way I want to start building a collection with a dead format.

(And, in keeping with John Landis cameos, you'd never know that was Jim Henson Muppeteer Richard Hunt as the Dukes' loyal floor-trader...)
