Black and Red Dualshock 5 delayed?

They were scheduled to be released today (June 18th). My best buy pre-order of a black one still hasn't shipped and now sites are saying June 24th or 25th. Anyone read anything about this?

I wonder if they temporarily ran out of stock.

That's cool they're offering red and black versions.

I have to say, the Dual Sense 5 for PS5 has been excellent so far. Nothing like the terrible DS4 experience I've had with 2 of Sony's DS4 controllers.

The Dual Sense 5 is reliable, durable and the haptic feedback isn't blunt like rumble, so I leave it on for gun effects and minor effects.

Great controller so far since November 2020. Over 7 months now.

The white controller needs to be kept clean to keep it looking new, while the black controller would hide any dirt build up well I can imagine.

Kind of a positive of the white one, as it basically reminds you to clean it, since you probably should regardless.


I'll wait to buy one till my current gives out. Heard a lot of people getting stick drift issues, so I guess I've been lucky thus far to not, and I've used it a lot since day one.

A bit jealous that Xbox is doing custom controllers. Would be awesome if we could get that with the dualsense.

I picked up midnight black from Best Buy after work. They had more black than red. I was sold on midnight black from the start but I was considering cosmic red too. I watched some unboxings on YouTube last night and hate how cosmic red looks in person, wasn't feeling it at all. It doesn't go well with the console either.

Purple/Blue are the next two colors I'm waiting on. Once one of these hits I'll get rid of white as my backup controller.

For anyone with a new black or red controller, are you going to get the PS5 plates to match it? That could be cool to see.

I'd really like a red PS5 with the black inside section. I can disassemble off the plates and then just very carefully spray paint it with a matte finish, but the white is cool too. It's just the squared book design that they should've rounded out on the PS5 1st console.

Good point. That's one thing that's nice about the white controller, to see how controllers over time can build up with oil from the fingers, which is one reason people leave fingerprints on surfaces, due to the oil markings left behind.

Technically with the black controller you're still matching. I've lost interest in paying (what I consider) a ton of money for black plates.

No matter what, you'll get same contrast issues as the black controller. Blacks are different shades on different materials. The "replaceable" black trim on the controller and the center black plastic on the console have a blue tinge due to the type of material but the black plates, and textured black controller bits are made of a material that allows a deeper black. The contrast is low enough between the 2 materials that it makes it look just a little cheaper.

I found a bunch of custom face plates and full sized plate stickers, but attaching a sticker to the side, it would have to be an amazing sticker that I'd never get sick of looking at. They have on of Crash Bandicoot that is very colorful and looks good along with the God of War one, but I don't think it would be something I'd want for the long term. Plain is fine for a device IMO.

One guy attached a giant red sticker to his face plate to change it to red, but stickers would need to have great glue to stay on there and trying to get it right without misalignment would be a challenge.

There's also sticker face plates for the PS5 controller that change it to any color.

I can imagine some have taken in their face plates and had them custom painted by a professional car auto body shop, to get that special paint that changes colors as you walk around it. They have special sprayers that aren't like spray cans. If using a spray can, probably best to keep the spray stream far away rather than too close.

This guy butchered his spray paint attempt of his PS5 plates.
He's got the plates hanging vertically, I would have them flat on the ground so they don't drip. But then he wipes the drips with a cloth and ruined it, and then it looked terrible at the end. Plus he got dirt specks in the paint too. It's a good heads up before attempting to spray paint. Best to practice as he says on something else first.
He ended up buying a black matte set of plates instead.

On topic, I bet the controller plates can be removed and sprayed, but I rather just get one of these controllers to avoid any chance of a sticky finish for some reason.

What's interesting is if the PS5 was released all black, and then down the road, they released a white PS5 limited edition. I bet it would have a lot more appeal right off the bat, rather than the slow appreciation he got over time from many.

I'd like to see someone round off those square corners and instead make a smooth curve to match the front curve. To see what that would look like.

Yeah, I'm satisfied with my PS5 as it is even though it's nice to see what it might look like in different colors, and agree they'll offer a black version slim PS5, 95% chance. I don't think there will be a white PS5 slim.
They should offer 2TB to make it more worthwhile if they can get the costs down with the fast SSD, but I'm guessing 1 TB is the number they'll go with hopefully.

The good news is the extended storage for an external hard drive works well for PS5 games and also playable PS4 stored games at the same time, which I wasn't expecting. I have 3.1 USB 4TB external HDD I got for around $100 new.
