English Patient, Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, American Beauty, Shakespeare in Love, etc?-wtf?
There’s gold in them (Hollywood) hills. Where is the drive to restore prints to 4K scans?😡😡😡😡😡😡😡 |

If Paramount doesn't release American Beauty, it wouldn't be because of Kevin Spacey. Other major movie studios has released movies on blu-ray with actors who were allegedly accused or involved in a sex scandal. Besides all the charges against Kevin Spacey were immediately dismissed due to perjury and lack of evidence from the plaintiffs. The lawsuit was frivolous from the beginning, and was obviously an attempt of extortion.

Have you seen that Allen v Farrow documentary on HBO, if not, check it out. Guys a total pos creep. I never liked Allen’s movies but then again he’s another generations icon. Tarantino peaked in 90s and the only linear screenplay that became a film I liked was True Romance. I’ll take that and Kill Bill 1&2 in 4K Dolby Vision.

I'm more interested in the 90's films like The Rock, Con Air, Armaggedon, Enemy of the State etc. So, a lot of Touchstone stuff, who knows how likely! Also... Fight Club, Point Break, Ghost and the Darkness, Broken Arrow, Romeo + Juliet, Hard Rain, Dante's Peak, Outbreak, Twister, Titanic, L.A. Confidential, The Green Mile, Sleepy Hollow, Die Hard: With a Vengeance, The Sandlot, Deep Impact, Deep Blue Sea, Payback, The Game, Goldeneye and Robin Hood: PoT
And yes Shawshank coming soon is good but Pulp Fiction needs to come, too. |

As mentioned, tons of actual 90s classics missing on the format. I could also add in Seven, American History X, Contact, The Fugitive etc. But you're more likely to see a Vinegar release of an obscure title few heard of than a popular classic.

Bruckheimer has allegedly done 4K scans of their 80's and 90's 35mm catalogue, so more of those will be released at some point in the not too distant future. Others films from that era are slowly being remastered, though there's not much to report on that front. Mystery Men is getting a release, which is shocking, so things are moving forward.

Undeniably things are moving forward.
It's funny because both framings are true. It's moving along in a way that seems fast in a very specific way, inspires hope that all our favourite notable films from 80's 90's and 2000's will come. And yet it's also moving slowly, almost selectively and on the journey there's no clear rhyme nor reason; and now we have holes like the Disney/Fox library situation and Weinstein Comany/Miramax catalog. And the studios used to be more adept and aggressive at buying up the rights from each other to snap up a home video release opportunity of these gaping holes in the industry. At this point I want all the agressive 4K disc proponents to buy up libraries of or straight up merge entities (home video wise) with the companies that aren't interested in the volatile profit margins of the format. |
