Ok apparently my usb thumb drive is so ancient that its not compatible with the PS5. I inserted it says not compatible. Question is for anyone who has tried one that works. What brand and where did you buy it? I need one today. Before I head out today to purchase one I'm hoping someone sees this and recommends one. Thank you!

Are you looking for an external HDD or external SSD? I have used this on my PS4 & PS5 but I am going to upgrade to an external SSD when the price hits that sweet spot https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-2tb-...?skuId=6295021

Cruz brand USB sticks work fine with PS4 and PS5, and I bought those back in 2013 or so and they still work. It's a black frame, with a white inner slider type.
I've reformatted it originally, and then made sure I have a folder called PS4 in there. Or one that says PS5. If the folders aren't there, consoles won't recognize it to save stuff. There are videos on youtube as well for this. EDIT: If you're referring to USB type HDD external drives, as long as you let the PS5 or PS4 format it first before adding items to it, it'll wipe out everything on there and then have it formatted to be compatible most times. I have Seagate 3.0 2TB for my PS4 games and for PS5, I use Armor HDD 3.1 USB 4TB. Both compatible with PS5. Last edited by Zivouhr; 06-25-2021 at 02:53 PM. |

If the files are PS saves or PS videos or videos compatible with PS5, then the USB Stick method is the easiest way and only way I know of, where you add a folder on the USB stick called PS5, put the files in there, and then after loading the USB stick, plug into the PS5 to read under the settings feature choices.

So I bought the Seagate Game Drive for PlayStation 2TB External USB 3.0 Portable Hard Drive yesterday. I guess i should have been very specific on what Im trying to do. Im not wanting to use this for games. Im trying to import/export music files basically to add sounds of the show on to MLB the show. Can you not do this type of thing with an external hard drive? So damn confused. Thanks

You need a thumbstick, not thumbdrive.
I transferred all my PS4 photos over to PS5 using my 8GB thumbstick. I didn’t like how the folders were displayed so I ended up removing all them pics. Saves can be stored on thumbsticks too. Sony keeps game saves separate from game data which can only be stored on HDD/SSD. |
