Default iTunes SD owned but wanting to purchase (upgrade to) HD version…

I wonder if someone can tell me how to do the following please…

I own the SD version of the remastered Babylon 5 complete series, but now that it has upgraded to HD (well, it did that a few months ago), and the price has just dropped to $39.99 I want to re-purchase the HD version…

Can I simply re-purchase (upgrade) the old SD version I have, by buying the HD version, or do I need to do something to my current SD version before I do?

I’ve never had to do this before, so it’s new territory…

Thanks

When you go to the store you should see two quality options available, SD and HD.
If using an iOS device bring up listing in the iTunes Store app and if it doesn’t already show the buy option then scroll down to bottom and select Also Available in HD then you should see the buy option.

OK thanks...I have purchased the HD version now, and (looking at previous threads) gone into my iTunes account and "hidden" the SD version...

I think that should do it?

I had also seen suggestions about gifting the copy to yourself, and that would "upgrade" the SD version to the HD version, and so wouldn't need to hide it, but if I understand correctly, you cannot gift items to yourself using iTunes account balance...

I don't have any payment method linked to my iTunes account...I only ever use iTunes gift balance...(from Amazon iTunes gift card purchase, for reliability, and not wanting to take the risk of my account being locked)

Thanks

Hiding/gifting is not necessary, you can purchase HD if you own SD with no issues.

Yeah as mentioned above hiding & gifting isn’t necessary, that’s only relevant for MA movie ports that are HD but you want the 4K option.

Ah, thanks...I only thought about hiding so that I didn't show two purchases in my library and then have to go into each one to see which was SD and which was HD before playback...

It wouldn’t, what you have would just playback in HD rather than SD.
That would only apply if it was a completely new store listing.
