Your right. EZYDVD has this listed as Umbrella Entertainment Pty Ltd. Not listed on Umbrellas web site yet. I was going by the entry on Blu-ray.com which lists Shock as the distributor. I've updated the original post and submitted the change to the blu-ray.com entry.

Glad its an umbrella release as they usually like to pack in alot of extras and do a better job compared to the bare bones releases from Shock.

The UK blu-ray from Second Sight has a decent transfer as well as a good retrospective making-of documentary that covers a lot of the behind-the-scenes mess. If this release ends up essentially just a clone of the UK release I think that'd still be pretty good.

That being said, if Umbrella gets ambitious, there was recently a leaked workprint with about 15 minutes of extra scenes - including these in a "deleted scenes" segment could make things interesting.

I have the Second Sight version, so if this Umbrella is a release of that same set its good news for those who have wanted it but never imported. But no reason to get again unless that work print is included; I would double dip for that. But Im not holding my breath...

Hell yes! Will be great to get this on sale, I couldn't bring myself to spend $30+ on the UK import.

A good chunk of their releases are region ABC though some (mostly titles from the likes of Universal, Sony, etc) are locked to B.

I believe Disney has the rights to this in Region A, so this might be locked to Region B.

Pathe owns international rights to SMB '93 (they own the output of co-producer Allied Filmmakers) and regularly enforce region locking on titles they licence out to third parties.

Despite Hollywood Pictures also being a co-producer, I don't think Disney owns US rights (or at least video/TV/digital) to SMB anymore. They haven't had it up on streaming and didn't create a new master outside the old letterbox DVD. Worth noting that Hollywood/Disney co-produced and distributed An American Werewolf in London (with JM Entertainment) in the US around this period. Their rights expired long after the old LB DVD and now Filmrise/Screen Media owns US distribution as part of the JM Entertainment catalog they own.

Umbrella are ambitious as their website also lists:

Extended workprint with deleted scenes

I want to know what’s the appeal on this one
I saw it at the cinema back in the day and can’t remember one thing that happened in the movie
Is it nostalgia for certain people?

Nah, it's actually an excellent movie. Flawed - absolutely, but boy there was some ambition.

I think some of the appeal is the cast, being one of the first video game adaptations, the deviations from the source material, the production design. It’s certainly a unique film

I've never seen this, and I've heard a whole hell of a lot about it. The extras, with the workprint, make me wanna blind buy it. I can always pop it straight on eBay after going through the disc.
