Australia Parasite 4K UHD (2019) - Madman Entertainment

I was just about to purchase this Australian Madman Entertainment release of Parasite in 4K UHD, which came out 2 June 2021, but then I noticed the listing on this site showed it has the following audio options:

Korean: DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (48kHz, 24-bit)
Korean: LPCM 2.0

I had remembered this had an Atmos track so I checked the US Universal Studios release, which came out 2 June 2020, and sure enough, this site lists the audio options as:

Korean: Dolby Atmos
Korean: Dolby TrueHD 7.1
French (Canada): Dolby Digital 5.1

I noticed the site listing also has the US version with HDR10+ and the Aus version with just HDR10.

What's going on here? Is the Australian 4K release just a crappier version?

There are two different transfers, the U.S., and the International one.

The Australian 4K release sources the International transfer (e.g. the U.K. release).

I see that the U.K. release has HDR10+ as well as a whole bunch of audio options, including a Dolby Atmos track.

Clearly, this proves that the Aussie release is a crappier version!

I wonder if Madman will give us a good release of Tigers Are Not Afraid? Surely, it cannot be that hard to simply issue the same thing on other releases?

What's the difference between the two transfers? Which is better?

The specs on this website are edited by members then approved by an admin, but the admin is probably overseas and can't confirm if specs are 100% accurate for a local release. A lot of the time the specs are just added based on a pre order listing and then not revised once the movie has been released. I always check the specs are accurate once I have watched a release. If you can see the back of the case in a store then that would be your best bet or if someone else who has bought it can confirm for you. I haven't it bought it yet so I don't know. But when it comes to 4K in Australia it is usually the same disc as released somewhere else overseas.

The local disc is DTS-HD 5.1 and PCM stereo only. It's a Madman-authored disc, with all their usual logos and trailers on it. So they probably skipped on the Atmos because that would have required an additional licensing fee and they wanted to save a few bucks

If that is the case then I can't believe they charged $80 for the Parasite special edition. I can't understand why they wouldn't just use a proven overseas disc and instead would put all their logos on it and change it because 4K needs to be checked for quality control on different players because they seem to be more sensitive to encoding errors. I don't see what they have to gain from doing this. The first time they have to do a disc replacement program they will probably stop doing it.

On the other hand the Akira 4K was the same as the non-Japanese overseas HDR corrected disc.

Better off to import the U.K. edition of Parasite, it's superior to the Australian release, I got it as part of a 2 for $54 promotion on Zavvi along with Hacksaw Ridge 4k. As much as I dislike Zavvi, I couldn't pass that up considering both discs are superior to their Australian releases.
