Italy Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo. / The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (4K UHD)

Il Buono, il Brutto, il Cattivo 4K Blu-ray

This Leone masterpiece is getting a UHD+Blu-ray release in Italy on Nov 17. Virtually nothing is known atm. Judging from the photo, it will be a limited steelbook edition with a numbered card.

No, I'm pretty sure it will be a keep case with (usually very nice) slip cover - that's what those Eagle 4Kult releases always are.

Yes, this has been confirmed by Eagle.
There will be also a DVD, full of extra material.

I'm assuming it'll be the same PQ as the US 4K UHD, only with the additional Italian scenes added in. Hope it has English audio. I'll be very curious to find out further information on this release.

Why would you assume that? Kino did their own work on the UHD, so unless Eagle licensed that then re-cut the whole film, it will most likely be the yellow, non-color-corrected MGM master.

Yeah i doubt Kino will hand over all that hard work they did unless paid handsomely.

Will be down to Eagle to clean up the piss yellow. Question is will they bother?

I was going to import the Kino UHD and now this... hmmm.
That cover looks quite nice, reminds me of the first DVD cover when the extended version came out.

I believe the slipcovers (or perhaps it's just the cards?) are limited to 1000 tho.

Either way, Amazon. It no longer shipping 'Total Recall' with a slipcover.

I ordered 2 neither had one

I think both are limited, but the cards more so (?). I only have discs with both, but honestly couldn't care less about the cards, but would, more often than not, dearly miss the nice slip.

Tech question.

Now the Kino is out there, how difficult would it be to unofficially copy what they've done.

I don't mean ripping the disc. I mean running the master (to which I presume they have access) and a Kino disc (to which they definitely have access for a few $s) into some sort of programme which analyses and them flags up how much the red was raised, magenta decreased, black levels changed, etc., etc., in each shot.

Then just apply something similar.

Yes the cards are limited to 1000 only (makes sense since they are numbered). As always the slipcovers won't be forever but I'm sure not as limited as the cards.
Don't care too much for the cards but I think the slipcovers on the Eagle releases are lovely and always want to get them.
Here's hoping TGTBTU get's a nice release by them transfer wise and is English friendly- I already love the look of the slipcover.

Anyone could re-grade the green master. Kino's work was done in some cases shot by shot, so no "automatic" program can just copy that. Kino's work wasn't perfect with the crushed blacks and some shots that just aren't properly correctable, so until someone goes back to the scan to do it properly, it will never look great.

I am aware of that. I suspect that for most of the film a blanket adjustment would suffice. Then run both alongside each other, it would become very clear very quickly which shots required additional work.

as i said in the international forum, master here is the MGM-yellow-Ritrovata one, but with italian credits and inserts (il Brutto... and so on) and the italian 175m cut (so no Grotto scene and other extended anomalies). it's an obvious bd-100 where 92gb are for the main feature; video bitrate is very high (70/80/90 mbps) with the only dark scenes a little lower (30/40 mbps). we have italian and english mono and english 5.1. subtitles only in italian. i like it very much but if you can't stand ritrovata grading, just don't buy it. i'm happy with both versions of the movie (kino and eagle).

amazon.it order is live for me today.

I ordererd mine elsewhere and it shipped 2 days ago. And I hope that wasn't a mistake - never used the shop before. The packaging can't be worse for sure.

EDIT: Just received a DPD tracking notification and it's in Germany already, so yes, I think it wasn't.
