Daniel Craig’s 007 Replacement Won’t Be Discussed Until 2022, Says James Bond Producer Barbara Broccoli

In an interview on BBC Radio 4’s popular Today program on Monday morning, the half-siblings and heads of Bond outfit Eon Productions were asked if they have decided who might replace Craig’s 007.

“Oh God no,” said Broccoli. “We’re not thinking about it at all. We want Daniel to have his time of celebration. Next year we’ll start thinking about the future.”

Discussing Amazon’s takeover of MGM, the parent company of Eon, and how it might impact Bond, Broccoli and Wilson didn’t reveal any doubts about the franchise, but details are still sparse.

“We’ll keep going,” said Broccoli. “Next year it’ll be the 60th anniversary of the Bond films, so we’re looking forward to the new chapter, whatever it brings. We’re not quite sure at the moment. Right now, we just want to celebrate ‘No Time to Die’ and Daniel’s extraordinary achievement.”

So with the franchise once again up for a reboot, would Campbell consider coming back and making it a hat trick? That’s the question we posed recently when speaking with the filmmaker on The Collider Podcast about his excellent new thriller The Protégé, and Campbell said he’d be happy to consider directing Bond 26:

“Oh yeah, I would certainly consider it. I enjoy doing Bond. And also, the two producers are great to work with. You’re pretty much given a free hand to – everybody obviously participates in the script, and Casino I had Paul Haggis who did a terrific job with the script. He did the final draft. But the two producers are great to work with, and they don’t interfere at all if they think you’re on the right track, and everything else they just let you get on with it. They support you all the way. It’s an enjoyable experience.”

I'd imagine they'd want someone for at least 3-4 entries, and with these movies taking 3 to 4 years to come out and the next installment being at least 2 years away(realistically 3) their target should be someone in their mid 30s.

I don't see them casting anyone currently older than 38, and even that's pushing it.
I get why Regé-Jean Page is one of the favorites, he's in the perfect age group(turns 32 in January) and he isn't a big name yet but popular enough with the younger crowd.

I haven't watched the Lazenby one, but other than him, not once have they recast all the other characters.

Not always.

M's have traditionally spanned more than one Bond.

Lois Maxwell served 3 007s as Miss Moneypenny, but her successors haven't survived a Bond change.

Q did as well from 63-99, though his Llewelyn's replacement Cleese didn't.

Other characters like Felix Leiter seem to get recast by film, let alone Bond actor!

One of the lesser known white male actors who are in their early thirties right now. I don't know them. I think it will be a brown guy, though. Because an army of opinion news outlets and regular movie watchers is just itching to speak/write their outrage if it's another white guy.

There's no reason it can't be a black actor. As long as they are right for the part!

They can't win either way though in the current climate. So I'd get my popcorn and enjoy the ride if they cast a black, female, gay* actor as the next Bond.

*That's one way to have a female Bond yet keep the Bond Girl tradition.

Honestly for the sake of novelty, it would be worth trying a different person than another white man.

I think it is worth a shot.

When a formula has been done to death, it's probably a good time to try a new formula. Keeps people from getting bored out of their minds of the same old, same old.

Skyfall would have been the perfect movie to include some other 00's.

How about you do the formula very well again for once? Make Bond fun and smart again? Changing his ethnicity seems lazy.

I really liked Casino Royale, but that was it. Craig was wasted.
