Default The next 45 days, what can we expect ?

This question is kinda open season for all Forum Members to predict what they perceive will be the latest and greatest from Blu-Ray, the Players, the Movies, as well as the Game world. So, here's your chance. Go for it !!!

There is a rumor circulating that there will be a price drop on both the Samsung and the Sony BD players within the next week.

I don't know if this is credible but it would make perfect sense. The Sony at $799 or less would sell very well IMO.

Well since this is a prediction thread, all I want is to point out that on the December (and January) weeks around Christmas there's kind of a low number of titles announced compared to the weeks before and after, which seems to tell me there might be a couple of late hour surprises like X-Men 3. It probably depends on how many players are out and if the PS3 sells a few units ... This is like predicting earthquakes

The break in title announcements could be to allow for some surprise announcements, especially from Sony who has had a major slowdown.

I think the price cuts on Blu-ray players could happen. The Samsung is already available for much cheaper than $1000. The Sony is a nice looking player with some good specs. If they dropped their price a bit it could bring some more people into Blu-ray who are waiting. I'm not sure if it's because of this time of the year, but Sony's SXRD TV's have been selling at very agressive prices for their brand. I think Sony would like to end this war early, so maybe they will do their part now that the PS3 launch is complete.

Take a look at Tweeter's website. They're already offering the Sony BDP-S1 at a sale price and it isn't even in stock yet!

I predict with the late introduction of Sony's BDP-S1 at the end of November, and knowing what allocated distribution of these players nationwide will be, the price point will barely move. Most will hold the line, because of the demand, and the limited supply and the price will sustain itself near or above $ 899.99 . Also, in the U.S. Sony distribution centers close from December 23rd through the end of the year. So, what's out there in that short time window is all you be able to acquire, period, until after the first of the year.

I also predict the Sony BDP-S1 will be a steller performer, solidly built, with all the features we've wanted in a player, with the exception of HDMI-1.3 (coming out early next year - 1st or 2nd quarter).

Though these early delays have been frustrating, it will be all well worth it in a mere 16 more days.

(For the benefit of JTK and others - this is an IMO post)

Unsure of the next few weeks, but looking a little further ahead to the CES.
Media Players with Blu Ray included will be the big thing. Anyone about to release a new Blu Ray player will be pushing it for all it's worth. HDMI receivers, some adventursome manafacturers will even have all the new audio codecs (DD & DTS high def etc and 1.3)
The studios will be pushing new mastering methods most probably with the "new" video codecs. TV's and projectors all 1080p will be everywhere.

Shock and awe for BD.

Sony at MSRP $799 new and Sammy at MSRP $499 new would be VERY attractive and aggressive pricing that would shut down yet another favored HD-DVD zealot talking point about "pricing." They need to have a BD player besides the PS3 game console that will be in short supply anyways for a while in play. I think the Samsung is the easiest and most obvious choice by far.

These two things need to happen.
