Default Hmm movie won't play?

I recently got the latest "Pirates" movie, and after the first 10 minutes of ads I got a bit frustrated and clicked to Menu.

The Menu screen for this movie has a talking skull in the center with "Play Movie" to the left and "Total Menus" to the right. The skull talks, I click "Play Movie", there's a pause..., the screen refreshes (sans the two options) then the music starts up and the skull animation starts again. After several minutes of this (and listening to the skull repeat itself) I finally eject the movie and start again. And again. And again. The movie itself will not start. The ungodly amount of ads at the beginning DO play over and over - each time its inserted - but clicking "play movie" just basically gains me a screen fresh.

Am I doing something wrong or does this sound like a bad disk?

I have a Sony BDPS300. The same exact thing happened to me. However, I did find a work around to get the movie to play. When the talking skull shows up, look for the option that let's you go to scene selections. If you can find it that is (it might be under the pop-up menus - I cannot recall). I was able to play the movie by clicking on scene one in the scene selection submenu.

I hope this works for you too. Good luck.

I had a Sony 300 with no firmware updates on it and Pirates played fine. Took a little while to load, but is such a nice player for the price and reliability.

Maybe if he updates the firmware on the Samsung, he will have better luck also. I feel really bad for the Sammy owners and it's a disgrace they have such problematic players.

My bottom line suggestion is to take the Sammy back for a refund if its not too late and buy a different player. Soon!

Well once the skull starts talking nothing works - stop/play/pop up nothing will respond, I get the little "stop" sign on the upper right. What is really annoying is each time I re-start the disc, all the ads start up from the beginning... its like water torture...

I hooked the ethernet directly to the back of the Samsung to check the firmware update and it said I have the latest, no update necessary.

I've actually had this since Sept. and haven't had many issues (many major issues).

Is it too late to return the Samsung? I'm serious. All of this could be over with one trip to the store.

The only thing I can think of other than buying a different BD player is to go to the thread of the player model you own and start reading the posts from the beginning.

Unfortunately the 1200 has even more issues than the 1400. What is the chance of buying a different player and selling this one on e-bay?

Not much of a chance at the moment... its an expense I don't want right now (trying buy a house).

I actually have had very few problems with mine, so I don't really have a lot to complain about.

Thats good. A house and a little perspective on HD movie watching is always a good choice.

I have the Samsung 1000 and had no problems at all until firmware 1.3 came out. Then it started to get spotty. It would play discs most of the time with out any problems. Then it just started to not play some, and still play others. Then firmware 1.4 came out and effectively killed it. Still plays standard DVDs. Ive tried contacting Samsung but have had no response. Anyone know where I can get firmware 1.2 back?

Before I had the 3.2 firmware update on my bdp s1 I had the dame problem and I to found selecting the scene menu would get the movie to play. Since the update all is fine.
