Lol I see my wish list entry for the Hobbit inspired this thread.

It amazes me, that with the popularity of the live action Peter Jackson films, that they couldn't be bothered to track down the proper elements for a decent release of the Hobbit that doesn't have the missing audio. I've never known what the back story was to this, but the recent re-release of the early 00s DVD had the exact same problem.

Mad Monster Party needs a new HD (or UHD) release. The DVD is considered superior to the Blu-ray according to the thread on this forum.

It's there an issue with the OCN? My memory might be a bit foggy, but I believe a fire was involved and there was a problem securing proper elements for the Blu-ray.

I've been wondering if or when Warner will release the ones they own on blu-ray. Many of them have been available in HD digitally for a few years now:
  • The First Christmas: The Story Of The First Christmas Snow
  • Frosty's Winter Wonderland
  • Rudolph's Shiny New Year
  • The Easter Bunny Is Comin' To Town
  • The Hobbit
  • Rudolph And Frosty's Christmas In July
  • Jack Frost
  • Pinocchio's Christmas

There is a lot Rankin Bass stuff I have not seen or just don't remember seeing because I was too young.

It is a shame so much of their stuff hasn't aired on TV for many years...if at all.

You would think that we would have had the Hobbit on blu ray by now especially when the live action movies came out.

Never understood why they keep releasing the same ones all the time and rarely ever give the other stuff a chance.

Never watched the Monster Party blu ray, glad to know it is worse then the DVD.

Looks like NBCUniversal owns the pre-1974 stuff while Warner Bros. owns anything from 1974+.

Coming Oct 18, 2022!

It appears that Universal and WB are working together to make a larger Rankin/Bass set with some never-before released shows (I'm assuming these may be some of the Warner Archives: The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, Pinocchio's Christmas and such that weren't available outside of WB Shop). I have most of them, but if this adds new content or better encode over the current DVDs, I'll probably bite. Hopefully it will sell well and get a blu-ray release eventually.

It would be nice to get a Drummer Boy with better picture quality.

Rudolph, with all versions included
Frosty, with all versions included
The Year Without A Santa Claus
The Little Drummer Boy, properly restored (I seriously think that movie's cursed)

It’s missing parts of the film and it might never be found because the footage wasn’t treated with care so the original footage might be lost forever that’s also way the video quality isn’t great.
