I downloaded the demo but haven't tried it yet. I'm definitely interested though.

Loved the art style of Octopath but bounced off the game pretty hard. This being more strategy has my interest.

I played the original demo and had some issues with it, some of which they fixed according to that update they gave a while back. My biggest problem is the quality of the sprites though, I wish they looked better and weren’t being seen with nostalgia blinders on by so many, including the developers. The HD-2D style concept is great for remaking old JRPGs (I really would love one of FFVI) but the sprites don’t need to be a mess of pixels. The ones of this game don’t look TERRIBLE but I would still prefer higher quality.

That said, if it reviews well that won’t stop me from trying the final product down the line when its on sale. This will definitely be $30 before the end of the year so I can wait.

I said the same thing about Octopath, but I don’t think I’ve seen the physical on sale, and it’s rare now

I’d be more certain if it was published by SE. although Bravely Default 2 did drop to $27 last year (not sure if it was a sale or price error?) unfortunately I missed it

Bravely Default 2 was what I am basing my expectation on. It was $29.99 a couple of times.

Worst case there is always the $49.94 price Walmart does in store.

Octopath got really cheap when stores started to clearance it. I think it was Walmart who had it for like $20/$30 or maybe even less. I remember the same thing happened with Xenoblade and it was being clearanced off at dirt cheap prices.

I tried playing the demo. Jesus Christ! This is not a JRPG. This is a reading simulator! My hat is off to those of you who enjoy these kinds of games but I do not possess the patience to play stuff like this.

Welp I already needed to pick a game to cross off my upcoming to buy list and your post might've convinced me. There's nothing I hate more than constant reading in a game, especially without voice acting. If it were cutscenes with voice acting then I'm alright with it.

I haven't tried out the demo myself or even looked very far into this game though. I'll still wait for a sale I think. February and March have my wallet slammed from new games.

^ I only played the first and second(?) chapter, or so, but everything is voiced so far, including the side story

I think playing this on tv or handheld is a make and break for this game

I tried it docked for 5 minutes and couldn’t continue, it’s not a TV game to me, for one it’s too ugly for a big screen, second, it’s the kind of game that I’d play in small bursts

I’m in the mood for a ‘serious’ jrpg, so I think I’m in day 1, but I can also see why some would be turned off (the dialogue sure take forever, also they throw way too many names characters and lore at you, when you barely just started)

Downloaded the demo and will check it out tonight and see if its more fun than the original version. I do love that Square gives these lengthy demos to their games and really wish other companies would follow that method.

I pre-ordered a copy of the Special Edition back in October from Amazon UK and it didn’t ship yet and now it’s out of stock. Uggh

That sucks. I'll probably get this cheaper down the line since all reviews I've read say it's more visual novel and less SRPG. Don't really want to spend a lot of time reading and watching cutscenes.

I saw people saying that and others have said that’s based on the demo having a lot of story. The battles pick up a lot after chapter 3 and there’s battles you can repeat as much as you want for training.

Finally picked this up the other day & really glad I did. The story so far is really good & has me wanting to see more. The battles are also very well done. It’s a game that’s been very hard for me to put down as I find myself saying “I’ll just play a little more” every time lol. Probably one of the best SRPGs I’ve played in a while.

Posts that haven't aged well... I bought it.

Plan on playing it after Xenoblade 2. So probably like a month from now.

Now that I’ve put more time into this I can say that this is now in contention to be my GOTY. Of the games I’ve picked up this year so far, it’s my favorite.

20 hours into this and I'm loving every second of it. You could've told me this was a Fire Emblem game and I'd have believed it.

Only thing is I had to switch to Japanese audio because the dub is horrible. I put Xenoblade 2 down to start this and the dub in that is terrible too. I'm having a bad run with these game dubs.
