I'm surprised this wasn't announced on a trade website like Variety or the Hollywood Reporter first. This is major news and the first leaking of it is from something called The Courier-Mail?

I wonder if the sequel will be about an actual rematch between them or will about them teaming up again to face another bigger thread. Probably the latter.

Toho Kingdom confirmed with Legendary that this is happening. Really odd that there was no development news or production announcements before hand.

I enjoyed GvK, but I hope the sequel focuses more on Godzilla this time instead of Kong.

Kong: Skull Island is still the highest-grossing MonsterVerse film. Godzilla vs. Kong saw an uptick from Godzilla: King of the Monsters, despite being both a pandemic release, and digital day-and-date. So I was hoping for something like "Kong: King of the Hollow Earth." Literally anything could be down there, including a tribe of Kongs, and Toho kaiju like Baragon, Battra, and Biollante. But they probably see the most potential in keeping the two biggest mon-stars frenemies onscreen. I'm guessing Destoroyah will be the big bad.

I think it would be cool for each of them to get another standalone movie before teaming up again. Or at least Kong, since he doesn't have any outside of his first appearance.

I hope we get Gigan. Godzilla gets his ass whooped from time to time, I don’t think anyone in the showa era films made Godzilla bleed more than Gigan. Just tore him up with that blade and those arms.

This is really great, because I seem to recall prior news that the agreement with Toho was up and that they were reclaiming it to focus on their own movies/universe.

Did I miss an update on that front?

I want more Godzilla movies, really want see the monster verse version of Anguirus, Baragon, Biollante, Gigan, Hedorah, and King Caesar. I also would like to see more Rodan(that acts like Rodan and not Starscream) and a bigger version of Mothra.

As for Kong, I would prefer they make up more monsters for him to fight and not use the Toho ones.
