Default DESPERADO (Robert Rodriguez) Coming from Arrow Video (presumably 4K)

How awesome, especially if (maybe maybe?) the other two films in the series are on their way, too…

Hopefully a 4K release!

One of the best action films of the 90s.

Guess the 'Mex Box' on Fran's list must be Rodriguez's Mexico Trilogy.

I love this one! Hoping it’s a 4k, but if not, at least a new scan.

This thread is way too early. There's no guarantee this is even coming to the US.

Oh, Jesus, it’s a heads up for people. If it ends up being BD only or UK only, the moderators can move it when we learn that. Must every party have a party pooper?

Stop jumping the gun on creating threads. It gets people expectations up. I'm still waiting for Highlander and From Dusk Til Dawn.

The Frightners, Inglorious Basterds, Wolf of Wall Street did. Do you see those either?

I'm sure this will come from Arrow in some form. But since we don't when and specifically if itll be the UHD format threads like this are best left in the wish list section unless a true formal announcement is made.

too bad the MPAA had it's say, and the movie lost some of the more over the top violence, I'd assume those little bit of extra goodness is long gone.

Can someone explain something to me. I'm a die hard Mariachi fan and love all 3 movies.
I know that Rodriguez was forced to make some cuts to ensure an R rating.
In the end he took out the entire final shootout, because it needed to much trimming.

From IMDB:
Quote:
Reportedly, Desperado suffered severe cuts when initially submitted for an R-rating. The end sequence originally involved a large scale shootout between El Mariachi, Carolina, Bucho & his thugs. After seeing the amount of footage that needed to be trimmed, the director opted to delete the entire scene which currently ends in a slow-mo of Banderas blasting away. 2 additional scenes were also removed featuring the "crotch-gun" (seen in the guitar case) used during 2nd bar shootout and the same gun going off accidentally when Banderas is in bed with Hayek. This gun was later used for a scene in From Dusk Till Dawn.
Quote:
For most of the killings they used a gun that essentially fired fake blood at the characters instead of squibs. This unfortunately created too realistic of an effect resulting in them having to edit out much of the deaths for the censors.
Quote:
The MPAA originally gave the movie an NC-17 rating. Many deaths and action scenes had to be cut to get the R rating. These include the death scenes of Pick-Up guy and his friend at the bar, and the death of Danny Trejo's character. The biggest excision came at the end of the film, which originally contained a large-scale shootout at Bucho's mansion between El Mariachi, Carolina, Bucho, and his thugs. However, owing to the amount of footage the MPAA demanded be removed from the scene, Rodriguez elected to remove the sequence entirely, giving the film its final fade-out ending. Two additional scenes were also deleted featuring the "crotch gun" (seen in the guitar case). Originally, the gun was used by El Mariachi during the second bar shootout, when he uses it to shoot the pony-tailed thug in the balls before whipping out his pistols from his sleeves and finishing him off. In a second deleted scene, the crotch gun goes off accidentally while Carolina and El Mariachi are in bed, blowing a hole through the guitar.
Who owns this movie? I know Columbia pictures and Los Hooligans Production financed the movie. The latter is an older production company owned by Robert Rodriguez.
I'm just curious who has the negatives. That end shootout seems like a simple insert to do, right?
I asked him once on Twitter, but I doubt he has seen my tweet let alone say something about it.

Would just be cool to see his original version.

Or just to see the deleted scenes would be fine by me.

The film is a property of SONY Pictures. They financed the movie. Los Hooligans Productions (Robert Rodriguez) produced it with Columbia Pictures moneys.

Most likely Robert Rodriguez has all of the deleted stuff.

I think if we don't get this release or it's not a 4K release, Filmmaker should be forced to change his avatar to dallywhitty's for the rest of the year.

I think this section is messy enough without adding placeholder and parked threads. Some of the regulars seem to be doing that more often now too, as if there's some prize for making threads ahead of any real concrete info.

You mean to tell me that you're not going to be excited to see a "4K UHD coming from Criterion" thread from the usual thread parker on Friday?
