Default Advice for a college student

Hey guys, I need your advice:

Given the extent of "personal" problems that occurred during fall semester 2007, I would consider this time period to be the worst in my life thus far as it had caused me the most emotional trauma. With the "personal" problems being resolved at the end of December 2007, I should have felt relieved, however, I still feel to this day somewhat bothered by the things that happened although everything has been resolved because I would probably consider myself one of those peoples that worry about something too much.

Anyhow, I am trying my hardest to study for my courses currently, but I still feel in the back of my mind my problems surfacing (the emotional thoughts) which causes me to not be able to fully concentrate on the pertinent materials I need to be successful this semester. It just seems as if everything I read and try to understand is going out the other ear because I think my mind puts more emphasis on the emotional problems I faced a semester ago instead of my relevant educational materials. In addition, every time I try to soak the textbook material into my mind, it seems as if my brain is not firing all engines and is just there like nothing is clicking. I know many of my friends say I should go out, but I really cannot afford to because my classes this semester are too serious to just go out every night, etc. I know medication might help, but the last thing I need is something that will make me drowsy or even crazy, etc.

Anyways, what do you think I should do? I have even thought about seeing a psychologist and perhaps they can root out my problem, but I cannot really afford it at the moment financially nor educationally. I feel I should have taken a break this semester to rest my mind for a few months before heading back to school again. For those of you that have emotional issues, how do you overcome then?

Thanks for your time in reading my dilemma.
