46% say 3D is a must-have feature in projectors. And they say 3D is a niche format!

Um, projectors are a niche product. Half of a niche is still a niche.

How 3D movie fans are going to watch Top Gun: The Way of Water in 3D @ home if they don't make 3D Blu-ray players and 3D displays like front projectors?

8K is dead
4K is all the rage
Smartphones sell by the billions, that's where the money is, along with oil
3D is just waiting for its next comeback ... it is inevitable

Unfortunately that thread was started in April, but, I voted anyway, it's at 50.7% now.

I own an Optoma HD143x. When I was looking for options for a 3D Atmos home cinema, it was about a year or so after 3D TVs were no longer being made (or, maybe Sony had one model or something). So, that's when I decided to go with a projector. In searching for a projector, color quality, DLP 3D capability, and price were the main considerations. I found this reconditioned model after the next model had come out. In calibrated mode, the color is excellent, better than my budget UHD TV. (when I say better, I mean better, not "vivid".) The only thing was, when I mounted it on the ceiling, which makes it upside down, there was a vibration. I found this online and I opened the lamp door and had to tighten a screw, all better, but, supposedly voids the warranty. (Why would changing the lamp void the warranty? They think we want to pay someone to do this?) Anyway, I'm a bit off topic....

I hate when a movie comes to IMAX in 2D when it is available in 3D (in other cinemas and in IMAX 3D in other countries). I do not understand this at all. My IMAX doesn't charge more for 3D even, so, it can't be about ticket price.

So, yes, my next projector has to be 3D capable, especially now that I have over 150 3D BD titles.

Apple was working on no-glasses 3D tech years ago, not sure if they still are, but, I hope they are, and others too, we need no-glasses 4K/UHD 3D!!

I recently bought an Epson EH-TW9400 projector (Epson 6050UB in the USA) because it still supports 3D, while more recent models unfortunately do not.

Focus on making blockbusters that command audiences to return to cinemas on the strengths of their visuals and storytelling.
I wonder why he does not consider 3D to contribute to visuals

As much as he rags on Britbongs watching soccer in 3D, for American sports I could (ahem) see the advantages of 3D as it would become easier to see if the pitch was truly in the strike zone (various 2D schemes have been tried for this, all of them come up short), or how close a leaping player really was to catching a deep fly ball that becomes a home run. In 2D, there's the issue where it looks close from one perspective but then another shows he missed it by a country mile.

We could also get some spectacular "organic" popout as I've seen highlights of balls being batted right at distant cameras, with the cameraman audibly panicking and abandoning his camera, as well as one notable foul tipped pitch that hit a camera square in the lens and shattered it on-air.

Edit: Imagine seeing this in 3D

American football would also be a good contender, though it might not amount to as much because too often the cameramen get fooled by the plays and follow the players who do not have the ball

1080p60 2D eluded broadcasters for so long, as does 4Kl60 (ought to be 120 FPS now), sadly the infrastructure just was not there for 3D Sportsball.

What I want in a projector is 4K 3D, and high frame rate 3D. With only one projector, it is currently impossible AFAIK to get more than 72 FPS/eye, even though projectors have been doing 240 Hz for a few years now.

So far as I am aware, there are no home projectors doing 4K 3D, and no projectors that can do 4K faster than 60 Hz.

3D @ 4K has a better chance tomorrow than 8K @ 2D.

The key with this guy is he said he got a headache from watching in 3D. And also there have been some 3D conversions that were done just because 3D was the trend and they were badly done.

I don’t care for this guy’s opinion.

He also lives in a country that actually still offers more 3D options, including 3D BDs. I have more than a few 3D BDs that are/were available outside of the US, mostly region free/all region and from the UK. So where he lives the market lasted longer and he can still go see more IMAX 3D than we can in the US.

I do not appreciate his headline and, while he has a couple good points, there are times when the visuals look and work better in 3D. EDIT: and I do hope the new Avatar brings back more 3D, especially IMAX 3D here in the US.

This just reminds me of trying to talk to people who think all films should be in 2.39:1, it’s as if it’s some religious cult, they don’t listen to the fact that cinematography is an art form. All they care about is it fitting their home theater setup without “black bars”.

Haters gonna hate. It's like Android vs iPhone, PC vs Mac, Ford vs Chevy blah blah blah. The problem isn't that people have their favorites for whatever reason, it's the weird tribal instinct and pack mentality that makes them want to destroy the "competitive" thing that's not their favorite.

I like my iPhone just fine thank you, but I have zero desire to argue with Android owners or destroy their phones or whatever. The 3D haters have been like this from the start. It's not good enough to not like it, they have to bash it and publicly wail and do their best to drag it down so that no one can have it anymore. It really is a mental deficiency.

Ukraine 3D / Lovers vs Haters ... It's a war zone instead of a garden of roses

You're darn right ^

Reminds me of the obsessed people in real life (not just in the movies); they think they know the truth and it's the only truth. This world is full of it ... 3D

Mediocre article filled with clichés to just promote Avatar Way Of The Water instead of the format. Just another journalist trying to get his pockets filled by typing about Avatar. Easy money.
