Default Casshern (2004) on Blu-ray?

Is this really out on blu-ray? I see that some sites are supposedly listing it like tower.com saying it came out last October by Dreamworks. Does anybody here have a copy, and if so, can tell me how the quality is? It's odd, even Netflix doesn't have it.

It's a DVD, no blu-ray, nor is there ever likely to be one except maybe some time far down the road in Japan

Yet another reason HD-DVD need to disappear. Great movies like Casshern won't appear until the media is truly mainstream.

I don't know if I'd buy this movie...but I'd love to see the visual style on blu-ray.

I bought this movie last year when it finally came to America, but DreamWorks bought the rights to it back when it came out it theatres. And because DreamWorks was HD exclusive means that it will be a long while if it ever comes to Blu-ray.

It's strange, but entertaining...that's about all I can describe about it at the moment...I need to go watch it again.

It's mostly a wrapper for a lot of CG.

The reason why Dreamworks sat on it so long is that they bought it on the trailer alone, once they saw the movie they realized it was unmarketable here

The same thing happened with Oshii's Avalon. The buyer watched 10 minutes and wrote a check, not realizing that the other 90% of the movie was a cerebral mindf*ck piece

Regardless, this movie deserves a hi-def transfer. The movie itself is just beautiful.

I would like to see this one on Blu-Ray too. I suggest that if you want to see this one, avoid the Dreamworks DVD, the movie is edited and subs are not accurate. I have the Thai DVD which looks great as far as DVDs go but I'd really love to see it on Blu.

The American DVD was cut up by Dreamworks and is missing about 30 minutes.

I woldnt count on a US blu-ray being different, so I hope it gets a Japanese release at some point.

Default Japanese or other asian release preferably with English subs

there are so many dvd versions floating around. i have a dts one (R3 i think it is) that fortunately has eng subs.

i hate to say it but i hope that it never sees a US release if they want to butcher it like the dvd release that was offered. i won't put my money behind molesting the film like that, hacking a half hour out is unforgiveable. i would rather spend a lot more money to import. i hope those practices make the companies lose their ass. okay.. so it might be "unmarketable"... but the people who *DO* want to see it don't want a terrible raped version, so they lose the audience that they could have. fail.

asian BD release please.

btw anyone know if the Italian version is uncut? i know it is unuseable for me tho, since it is italian only subs for the original audio.

Signed up for an account to say how awesome this movie is, imo. Loved everything about it. I own the Japanese discs, it has English subs and beautiful packaging.

Would love to get a Blu-ray, definitely not a butchered one, though.

As for it not being marketable here, some companies are just clueless. It could have been just as marketable as any comic-book/videogame movie and a proper DVD and Blu-Ray release probably would have had a money making cult following by now. Just because a movie doesn't do that well in theaters, that doesn't mean the DVD releases aren't going to sell like mad. Hell, I don't even go to the theater anymore. That's only needed if I want to see something in 3-D.

You have a point. The Trailer is EXTREMELY misleading. It makes it look like it's all balls to the wall action. And there IS some incredible action and special effects.

But it's like a 2 1/2 hour movie with about a half hour to forty five minutes worth of action. The rest is all dialogue and whatnot.

Now that might not be bad if you speak Japanese, but if you're reading the subs, which I have no problem with, it doesn't allow you to really get it. There's so much nuance in the dialogue, I'm sure, and just reading it is not going to give you the full emotional impact.

As such I was bored to tears through it, and ended up fastforwarding to the action scenes when I owned it on DVD.

They should have trimmed the shit out of that. Knocked it down to about 1:45 at the most, and it could have been very very good.

Once again, the TRAILER was f*cking epic. the movie, not so much.

Visually though, it might be one of the best I've ever seen.

Excellent movie, one of my favorite superhero movies. I have the full length version on dvd, just wish it would get released on blu ray with english subtitles. Maybe someone will convince KimchiDvd to release it. Heck they release the excellent anime Wonderful Days which I was really surprised to see released on blu
