A guy I met a long time ago told me that when he was a teenager in 1957-8, he and his friends raced from Rockwood TN to Crossville TN inside 30 minutes and managed to celebrate New Year's Eve twice. The two towns are about 28 miles apart by road but on either side of the Time Zone line. Considering that there was no Interstate 40 in that sector in 1957 and they had to use the old US 70, could that have been done? (There is a wee bet on it. I think it was possible but a friend who lives in Chattanooga thinks not in those days.)
