ebay auction of PS3 exceeds $ 4,000.00 ea

I've been monitoring the auction progression on ebay for about two hours now and have watched bidders, now pay over $ 4,000.00 for the Sony Playstation 3 60gb. Premium system. One right now with 48 bidders at 4 3,750.00 with 5 minutes left.

Good to see the autions are 22,000 units and not the 200,000+ units that HD-DVD fanboys were forecasting.
I just finished playing for an hour an my friends and was blown away. We played Marvel and NHL2K.
These are ported 1st generation games - can you imagine how far PS3 will blow ALL competition out of the water when they hit 3rd generation games and the developers really start to master the Cell?

You guys are looking at extremely rare cases or auctions that have been sabotaged by fake bidders.

The going price as of earlier today has been around $1200 for a 60GB system.

Ecost.com an online discount superstore (as they call themselves) is selling the 60gb PS3 for $1,299.99

60GB PS3's are going for less than $900.00 now.

eBay has just been flooded with these, so it was inevitable that the prices would come down, and they have. Big time!

People have been planning for roughly a year to stock up on extra PS3's and deliberately try and take advantage of Ebay and a shortage situation whereas the 360 situation a year ago happened with a lot less deliberate planning.

As expected, the result was, ironically, an overglutted aftermarket.

These greedy people competed against themselves and down the prices are coming.

Exactly.

The free market system still works in this case, and it has been interesting watching it do so.

It is hilarious thinking back to some of the $3000.00 "buy it now" auctions that I remember seeing! And people who pictured themselves with their new PS3, thinking that they had just won the lottery!

Thats funny. All those people waiting days in line just to try to make a fast buck. And that one guy that paid 50 homeless people $100 a night to wait inline. You know he is taking in the shorts now, especially when ebay added the PS3 rule where you can only sell one at a time.

I bought mines on a gs/eb store preorder for the sole reason of keeping it for bluray and ps3 games.
