Default Batman Returns 30th Anniversary

30 years ago today, Michelle Pfeiffer kicked a coupla guys in the face a few times, and put Her foot in danny devito's face (how he resisted sticking his tongue out, i'll never know), and made me fall in love with Her forever.

It's a shame there's no theatrical re-release of this planned. I'd love to be able to see it on the big screen. It remains iconic after all these years.

I saw it at the cinema in 2019 as part of a marathon with the other Burton/Schumacher Batflicks. I think it's getting a UK re-release this Christmas, too.

A terrible adaption of the Batman comics.

But as a Tim Burton film, it's absolute heaven.

I don't really agree, despite the deviations they took.

Let’s just call a spade a spade, the comic books and the darker movies are completely different. The comic books, with all the campy skin-tight shit, just doesn’t appeal to me, despite it being the official version of events. The only movies that really aimed for similarity to the comic books were the original Batman movie and Batman & Robin. The darker movies, namely the Burton ones, the Nolan ones, the animated movies, Joker, and The Batman, were always the ones I liked. They’re about as accurate as an order at McDonald’s, but I just always like the dark stuff over the campy stuff.

Here are two pretty cool write-ups about the comic book influences on Batman Returns, btw:

Paid $100 for a private screening at Cinemark during the pandemic. Thank GOD they were offering older classics like Returns because I’m almost certain theaters would’ve not brought it back otherwise. Maybe once Keaton returns in the near future, but still, I wasn’t gonna take that chance.

Worth every penny. Still my favorite Batman film.

Last November, a second run theater a couple of hours away was playing this and Batman ‘89 back to back. My girlfriend and I were the only patrons in the ENTIRE building for their whole day and it only cost us $20 for the tickets.

I am not sure if Batman Returns still holds up as well as Batman (1989) relatively speaking but remains a good watch for Michelle Pfeiffer ("Meow")!

I saw it opening night. Thunderstorms earlier in the day had messed up the traffic lights (they were all blinking red) so a 15-minute trip took over 90 minutes. The lobby was narrow and packed, and myself and my sister were nearly trampled when some comic book store moron yelled out "we're giving away comics over here" (the store had a table in the lobby). Once we sat down, a hateful usher yelled at us to scoot down so others could get in. He could have just asked politely...

I liked the movie, but the experience was not great.

The last great film to feature Batman in it.

It should be noted that Keaton isn't much a fan of this film and only did it for the money.

You got any source for this?

I've consumed enormous amounts of articles, interviews, etc. surrounding these movies, and have never heard such a thing.

It should be around the 1h20m mark. It's a bit hard without the transcript feature.
