Default Satan's Little Helper (2004) Synapse Films

Jeff Lieberman's Satan's Little Helper is coming to blu-ray on October 25. 2022 from Synapse Films!

Label description: Nine-year-old Douglas Whooly (Alexander Brickel, PALINDROMES) is obsessed with the handheld video game "Satan's Little Helper," and annoyed that the attention of his big sister Jenna (Katheryn Winnick, TV's VIKINGS and BIG SKY) is being distracted by her new boyfriend Alex (Stephen Graham). These two concerns collide on Halloween, when Douglas witnesses a serial killer in a devil mask (Joshua Annex) posing his victims like outdoor All Hallow's Eve displays. Not comprehending how real the carnage is, Douglas becomes this Satan's little helper—and that's very bad news for Alex, for Douglas and Jenna's mom Merrill (Amanda Plummer, PULP FICTION, Netflix's RATCHED), and ultimately for their entire town.

As a Halloween junkie and generally a fan of Lieberman, I've always been curious about this one.

How does it compare to his other work, and how's the seasonal atmosphere?

I enjoy it. The kid can be annoying but all kids are haha. It has some decent Halloween atmosphere since it's set on the holiday and people are dressed up but I don't remember it looking like autumn, more like they filmed during summer. Regarding Lieberman's output, tonally it's closer to Remote Control than Just Before Dawn or Blue Sunshine.

If you've seen Tales of Halloween, there's a segment called The Night Billy Raised Hell that definitely took some inspiration from this film.

This release should be much better than the blu-ray released several years back where it was a Walmart exclusive but only had the TV cut. Definite pickup for me even if Synapse only releases it with the original cut and nothing else on it.

This is the least of Lieberman’s films IMO but it’s still a fun little item, not bad at all considering the microbudget they had. I’ll be upgrading my crappy DVD.

Have seen it a couple times and the plot synopsis for this definitely recalls that vignette.

Thumbs up

I found this on Netflix many years ago, and I really enjoyed it! My GF did not. I watched it again a year later, and it didn't quite hold up. I haven't seen it since, as I never got around to getting it on disc (it was in some kind of low-budget DVD 3-pack).

I'm definitely interested in a good quality BD from Synapse!

This is one of those few movies that just embodies the Halloween vibes for me extremely well so I routinely watch it in October as I ramp up closer to Halloween.

It's far from a "Classic" but I have always really enjoyed it, just don't go in expecting something amazing and if you at all are interested in it after watching the trailer I think you'll enjoy it!

I'm so used to the dvd copy after many watched so it will be awesome seeing a very likely well done upgrade by Synapse!

Really fun Halloween movie, but I'm sad that after waiting all these years it's not 4K.

I only saw this once years ago, I don't remember thinking it was great BUT I do remember the Halloween vibe being pretty thick and for that reason I will 100% pick this up.

I definitely need to revisit this but when I saw it a good few years back now, I remember laughing my ass off and really enjoying it. It's low budget but damn funny. I hope it holds up.

This deserves to be a Halloween classic and I hope this blu release finally gets it some attention.

It’s definitely got a fantastic Halloween atmosphere and I love it for just that.

The slipcover is a site exclusive from Synapse.

Only orders from synapse or diabolik offer a slip for an additional cost.

This is really one of Lieberman's best in my opinion but still like Squirm a little more.

Watched this for the first time last night. It's really a WTF kind of movie. I loved it and will be added to the yearly Halloween season required watching list.
