United Kingdom Halloween Kills

Thought I'd ask in here too as this section gets more views.

My brand new copy of Halloween Kills has an audio dropout followed immediately by my player freezing up on the same scene in the extended cut.

I've been reading around and there were issues on other discs that contain both a Dolby Atmos soundtrack and seamless branching. Those issues were apparently caused by the player being set to bitstream though where as mine is set to PCM anyway? Has anybody else had this issue with this disc? Is the issue likely to be related to seamless branching and Dolby Atmos not liking each other?

My player is the Panasonic BDT 500.

Another brand new copy has just done exactly the same thing.

Obviously my player and this title don't get along.

If you have a time-stamp for the issue you're experiencing, people might be able to check their discs?

Plays fine on my Sony player, my player is also converting to PCM and directed to my 2.1 setup if that's any help.
Might just be a Panasonic thing.

I've just played the movie up to the 8 minute mark on the extended cut from the beginning, and it played without issue for me. I've got a Panasonic player/recorder, for what it's worth.

So the problem happens around the time where young Lonnie stumbles and falls?

Yes that's exactly the spot.

Maybe try a player update if that's possible.

I was thinking of that but I've heard updating can lose your multi region capabilities?

Contact the retailer/seller and ask them if updating your machine would be safe to do without overriding the region unlocking, some players are safe to update.

I cant remember where its from. I bought it about 10 years ago. I get bad OCD with stuff like this, have since the VHS days. I've been googling like crazy. I dont know if its a Dolby Atmos issue because the same thing happened on Jigsaw, and the audio on The Irishman was muffled months ago until i reinserted the disc. Or if its seamless branching. Or Dolby Atmos in conjunction with seamless branching. Paranoid about hundreds of titles on my shelf now because like a lot of collectors I have lots not watched yet and some will have Atmos and/or branching.

Perhaps you could contact TPS and enquire about a possible firmware update and whether it's safe to do so, they're very good with this sort of thing. I'm not sure if you've been a customer with them before so whether they can help I don't know but worth a try.

If tps say its safe to do an update an I just download it to my player over wireless? Or do I need to do all that technical stuff? I. E decompressing the downloaded file and putting it on a disc? No idea how to do that.

Just contacted tps. Modern mods will allow updates without losing multiregion. My player was done at a time when updating would lose your mod.

So I'll just have to put up with random discs not working until I can afford a new player.

Thanks for all your input.

Does anyone know for certain or heard anything about a Halloween Blu Ray Collection releasing within the UK? I still have the old DVD collection. I don't really want to purchase them all individually on Blu Ray. Would be nice for a collection.

Kind Regards

If any of you were having occasional disc freezes due to not being able to update your player, would you just put up with it or buy a second, cheap up to date player for discs that don't play properly?

I'd have to get rid of my Oppo983 dvd player for space but it's very rare I watch Dvds anymore and I could play one on a blu ray player as a last resort.
